Two missiles, fired by a US spy plane inside Pakistani territory, killed 12 people and injured three others on Sunday.
According to eyewitnesses, a drone fired two missiles at around 4 p.m. (local time) that hit a house in Ganra Haibatkhel village of Sararogha tehsil of South Waziristan troubled tribal area. The house was destroyed in the attack, leaving 12 people dead. The three injured were rushed to a private clinic.
The residents of the village said dozens of militants arrived at the scene of the attack and took control of the area. They retrieved bodies and injured people, the residents said, adding that some of the victims’ bodies had been disfigured beyond recognition.
Locals said all those killed and injured were local tribesmen but some other sources claimed that foreigners were also among the dead.
“Some of the victims were foreigners belonging to a Central Asian state,” they said.
Political administration officials confirmed the missile attack, but said they were investigating the incident and declined to comment on the identity of victims. The government forces had quit the region almost a year ago to let militants rule the people.
Also, there was no question of government officials visiting the area to probe the missile attacks.
