Every day until the election, we'll be posting a round up of the day's related stories. These will include articles from NowPublic members and staff, as well as many other sources.

Karen Hatter is bringing us information on a scandal the McCains have been trying to exploit, which it turns out they helped fund in the first place:

According to an article at Abcnews.com, ties exist between Rashid Khalidi, who has been identified as a "PLO spokesman" by the McCain-Palin campaign, with the International Republican Institute (IRI), where Senator McCain is chairman, having served in the position since 1993, providing funding to the organization, Center for Palestine Research and Studies, which was co-founded by Professor Khalidi.

Infomercial

Barack Obama aired his 30 minute infomercial on October 29, just before the world series baseball game. The infomercial aired on three different major US tv stations. NP member mr. zoltanblack wrote about it here:

Yesterday Barack Obama released a nearly thirty-minute infomercial, aimed at making sure that everyone in America knows just who the future President of the United States is and what exactly he stands for.

NowPublic member Body did a write-up prior to the infomercial airing yesterday:

Senator Barack Obama will use his prime-time half-hour infomercial on Wednesday night to make what is effectively a closing argument to a national audience of millions. At times he will speak directly into the camera about his 20-month campaign, at others he will highlight everyday voters, their everyday troubles, and his plans to address them.

NP'er ojt wrote about an Obama effigy found hanging from a campus tree at the University of Kentucky:

A likeness of Obama was found hanging from a tree at the University of Kentucky on Wednesday.  Police were called and the Obama effigy was immediately taken down.  The president of the University planned to personally apologize to the Obama family on behalf of this disgusting act.

It's blurry and I took this at the last minute right as he finished his speech.

I was aware that Barack Obama was going to air a 30-minute informercial the evening of October 29 but I had no idea that I was destined to be part of his live audience in Sunrise, Florida. After reading so many stories about the infomercial, I realize that my desire to witness history turned out to be totally different: I was part of that very same history I was just trying to see.
