US engagement irks Sri Lanka, Norway ousted from peace mission.
Sri Lanks booted Norway out from the peace talks process that has been put forth for over a decade now.
Colombo's action effectively terminates more than ten years effort by Norway as a peace facilitator between the Government of Sri Lanka and the Liberation Tigers.
Norway has been facilitating peace with the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) rebels since the year 2000.
However their role has come under scrutiny by the majority Sinhalese nationalist groups and political parties who accuse them of being biased towards the Tigers.
Sri Lankan foreign minister Anura Bandaranaike in late August accused the Norwegians of misleading the European Union on the LTTE rebels.
Norway's role in the Sri Lanka peace mission seen crucial in the international communities:
Norway brokered a 2002 ceasefire between the Tigers and the Sri Lankan government, but the truce was shattered by renewed violence in 2006. Colombo pulled out in January 2008, with Rajapaksa vowing to destroy the LTTE.
In diplomatic circles, Norway's role is valued because it has the best direct links to the Tiger leadership, and is usually the channel through which the mediators and international community make their positions or requests known.
That, however, has infuriated Colombo, which says Norway has no business contacting leaders of a group that the European Union lists as a terrorist organization, along with the United States, Canada and India.
The government of Sri Lanka made the decision while the world is anxiously looking for a long term ceasefire solution in the Tamils regions.
US engagement irks Colombo, Norway ousted from Sri Lanka peace mission [TamilNet, Monday, 13 April 2009, 15:30 GMT]
Sri Lanka in a formal letter handed over to Norway's ambassador to Colombo, Tore Hattrem, Monday, has stripped the peace facilitator of its role in the Sri Lankan process, AFP said in a report Monday. "The government of Sri Lanka perceives that there is no room for Norway to act as (peace) facilitator," AFP quoted an official as saying.
The announcement comes following recent reports leaked in Colombo press suggesting that the United States had contacted the LTTE leadership through a third party and that the LTTE, concerned of the security of the civilians, had proposed a longer period of ceasefire.
Diplomatic circles in Colombo said that Sri Lanka's action was precipitated by the revelation that the United States Government was using Norway as a third party to facilitate a week long ceasefire.
Sri Lankan announced a "ceasefire" but continued to shell the "safety zones" in a reduced fashion; 23 Tamils civilians are killed since the "ceaesfire" was announced.
Starvation remains a harsh reality to many in the "safety zones".
Escalating numbers of Tamil civilians killed in the Safe Zone by Sri Lanka Army (SLA) shelling from January, and sustained protests in World capitals including London, Paris, Ottawa, Mebourne, Washington and Norway where Tamil expatriates gathered in large numbers, more than 200,000 in London this Saturday, have brought enormous pressure on the Government of Sri Lanka to accept a ceasefire arrangement as a relief to the more than 250,000 civilians crowded in the Safe Zone.

The Truth....
Since Norway failed to give adequate protection to the Sri Lankan embassy in Oslo and the resultant attack of pro-LTTE supporters prompted Sri Lankan Government to eject Norway from the peace process.
Oslo had failed in discharging its obligations under international law, consequent to its sheer neglect in the provision of adequate security to the Sri Lankan mission.

Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations of 18th April 1961.
Article 22(2) of the Convention casts a special duty on the receiving State “to take all appropriate steps to protect the premises of the mission against any intrusion or damage and to prevent any disturbance of the peace of the mission or impairment of its dignity.”
These apply in the civilized world.

Just happen to read the 1977 Eelam decleration based on A "Tamil Kingdom" and stuff.
Reminded me of this Proclamation of another nation..
It is to be noted that the representative of those same "Aryans" who invaded and destroyed "Thiravida" culture etc as per LTTE's "gaadfathrs" declared another nation and "Kingdom" or Reich on racial purification cultural superiority basis , the same ideology, methods and tactis are used by the modern era "Draryans" here in Sri Lanka. It cannot be coincidence at all.

How many voices to support and justify a hindered peace mission. Amazing the thirst the Sinhalese extremists have for Tamils' complete demolition in Sri Lanka.
If a peace facilitator listens to LTTE and try bring in a conclusive and all around solution to the peace mission, they are attacked as "supporting" LTTE?
There is only one rule in Sri Lanka: If you voice or even discuss (as the case in Norway's part in the peace mission) Tamils' autonomy, then you are branded as LTTE.
However Tamils have decided on autonomy in a political conference in 1977, in the Vaddukootai resolution under the leadership of MP SJV Chelvanayakam, and that is what Tamils want in Sri Lanka to live with freedom and rights.

Tamia
Thank you for posting this, which aptly shows who are the racists who cannot integrate into the social fabric of the country. Where have your mono-ethnic dream taken you all. Sit back tight and think.

Sri Lanka emerged in 1948.
Tamils have been oppressed for 30 years before Tamils and their political leaders decided that autonomy is the only solution to live freely in Sri Lanka.
Why Tamils have endure oppression ? and if Tamils in Sri Lanka ask for freedom and rights, then you would say that "they can not integrate with the social fabric of the country"?!! When the "integration with social fabric in Sri Lanka" means to be killed, raped and tortured and agonize over freedom and rights everyday, I think Tamils don't want to "integrate with the social fabric of Sri Lanka".
Actually, you are right in that, because Sinhalese extremists will see to that Tamils can not integrate with the social fabric of Sri Lanka ever.
It is a political decision supported by Tamils in Sri Lanka in 1977 to live freely in their own state as before the British came to Sri Lanka.
The ignorance you are showing right now in your reply was the similar mentality and swaying propaganda carried out by the Sri Lankan Government to deny the political aspiration of Tamils in Sri Lanka.
Our inspiration to live freely in Sri Lanka comes from the great leaders like Martin Luther King:

Lolz...
How about a deal. First let the trapped civilians go. Then you can happily cramp the lot of you into that 15kmsq.
Then you all can enjoy the infamous hospitality of the V. Pirapaharan & Co. while screaming at the top of your lungs.

If the Sri Lankan government stops shooting and shelling during the "ceasefire", and brings in International community aid agencies to work to bring the Tamils civilians out, the Tamils civilians will come out.
Now in the self-served "ceasefire" of Sri Lanka, and the Sri Lankan Army still shooting and shelling at the Tamils civilians, how would they feel safe to come out ?
Let International community aid agencies come in and work with the situation. Let international media come in and talk to the Tamils civilians.
Once the Sri Lankan Government let's in international community and media monitor the "ceasefire", then only the real "ceasefire" will starts in Sri Lanka.
Until then, the Sri Lankan Government will self-serve "ceasefire" as it sees fit.

Ask your V. Pirapaharan refrain from shooting the fleeing civilians for a couple of hours. Shall we see where the trapped civilians ends up.

All these "ifs" and "onces" can be compressed into one request from Sri Lanka. (We should not waste words in this global recession time).
Give us Piraphaaran.

Wow, now the Sri Lankan Government is worried about the lives of foreign aid workers and this is the same government which issued a note to BBC and other journalists to "play by the rules or face serious consequences" ?
Does the following report jolts your memory ? The Sri Lankan government booted out the foreign aid workers and media to hide its own human rights violations and terrorism.

Does the above report sounds like a "saintly" government worried over anybody' wellbeing?!

"Does the above report sounds like a "saintly" government worried over anybody' wellbeing?!"
Yes it does. But the terrorist supporters like you won't understand because you people are only intersted in the well being of your master terroist body and the self body. No other body, even if it is the bodies of the innocent Tamil civilians trapped there by LTTE.
