US intelligence 'kept files on Tony Blair's private life', claims ex-US navy operator

In an embarrasing revelation at his last leg of Presidency, Bush regime has been accused of spying on the private life of Tony Blair while he was the British premier. American Intelligence spied on the private life of then British Prime Minister Tony Blair, a partner of American war terror.
Former US navy communication operator David Murfee Faulk has claimed to have seen a file on Mr Blair in 2006 which contained information of a "personal nature" gleaned from eavesdropping on his private telephone conversations. The accusation that the Bush regime was spying on its closest ally in the war on terror is particularly embarrassing as there is understood to have been an understanding between the two countries that such espionage would not be carried out.
US intelligence officials kept a file on former prime minister Tony Blair's "private life", a former US navy communications operator claimed today.
David Murfee Faulk, who worked at a listening post in Fort Gordon, Georgia, told ABCNews.com he saw the file on Blair in 2006.
But he refused to provide details of what the file, held in an intelligence database called Anchory, contained, other than to say it was a file on his "private life" and included information of a personal nature.
Faulk also said he heard "pillow talk" phone calls of Iraq's first interim president, Ghazi al-Yawer, another key US ally, when he worked as a US Army Arab linguist assigned to a US National Security Agency (NSA) facility at Fort Gordon, Georgia, between 2003 and 2007.
While not illegal to collect information on foreign leaders, the US and the UK have pledged "not to collect on each other", several former US intelligence officials told ABC.
The NSA works closely and shares data with its British counterpart, the Government Communications Headquarters (GCHQ).
"If it is true that we maintained a file on Blair, it would represent a huge breach of the agreement we have with the Brits," one former CIA official said.

Sanjay, good story. Having known analysts at Fort Gordon, the Armies signal corp and Military Intel, I can tell you that anything one says is suspect, in that, they hold security clearances with non-disclosure clauses. It is very difficult to believe someone who has violated an oath of secrecy and goes to the media with a story. What is the possible gain from doing so? To elevate oneself? Having said that it is well known that each of our Intel gather information on friends as well as foes. I doubt that communications on Tony Blair were intercepted at Ft Gordon. Those tasks would be more at Ft Meade or from Remington Virgina. It is true that the Augusta, Georgia Project Sweat Tea NSA listening post is the agency’s main monitor for Arabic and Hebrew.

One should also be aware that listening in on Folks is not new. The NSA was instituted by executive order in 1981 So this super secret agency we all are asked to fear lays its cards on the table for all to see.
What is ANCHORY? It is American National Security Database collected by Signal Intel for the NSA. Throwing around Military Intel jargon makes us normal folks think this guy knows something that is beyond the general publics knowledge. ANCHORY is well known by many in the US Military. Knowing this name does not show any special knowledge. The person in the story mentioned seeing and hearing information that is already available in other stories on the net. This individual provided no new information. That is why I question his credibility

Good information, Sanjay. You begin by saying that this is an "embarrasing revelation at his last leg of presidency." My aunt used to say, "You can never embarrass people who have no pride."
Frankly, I don't think Bush cares very much what people think of him. He and his friends got what they wanted from America. They and their corporate interests will continue to reap benefits from Bush's tactics for decades.

Great post. It doesn't surprise me that Bush would have private files on Blair - though I do wonder how interesting they would actually be.
