US presidential election results: State by state
Here's a tally of how the states voted in the 2008 presidential election. According to latest figures, president-elect Barack Obama secured 364 electoral college votes, his Republican rival John McCain, 163.
Votes are still being counted in Missouri. There are 538 electoral college votes in total.
Obama gained 53% of the popular vote in the 2008 election, while McCain took 46%. Approximately 122 million people voted in the election.
In the Senate and the House of Representatives the Democrats increased their majority.
