United States supreme court justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg had surgery today for pancreatic cancer, which was apparently in the early stages. Ginsburg was appointed to the supreme court in 1993 by Bill Clinton and generally votes with a Liberal swing.

She is reportedly doing well and will be out of hospital in 7-10 days.

Ginsburg, 75, was discovered to have a small tumour in the pancreas during a routine check-up in January. She was operated on successfully at New York's Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Centre but would remain at the hospital for 7-10 days, the court said.
Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg had surgery Thursday after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, the court said.

The cancer was apparently in the early stages, according to the court announcement.

In its statement, the court said Ginsburg, 75, "had surgery for an apparently early-stage pancreatic cancer today, at the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York City. According to Dr. Murray Brennan, the attending surgeon, Justice Ginsburg will likely remain in the hospital approximately 7-10 days."
