On Tuesday, June 30, US troops in Iraq relinquished control to Iraqi troops with a bitter sweet taste in their mouth. The last 4 official US military Iraq casualties, while officially conducting the Iraq invasion, were sustained on Monday, one day before the withdrawal.

The U.S. military says that four soldiers were killed in Baghdad on the eve of the American withdrawal from Iraq's cities.

The 4 soldiers in Iraq were part of a Multi-National Division and their deaths were described as a result of combat related injuries. Continued violence occurred on what has been declared National Sovereignty Day by the Iraqi government: a car bombed reportedly killed at least 24 people in the city of Kirkuk.

Four Multi-National Division–Baghdad Soldiers died June 29 as the result of combat related injuries.  The Soldiers’ names are being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
