The USS New York commissioning is happening today and it is open to VIP ticket holders, but for those of you who are not ticket holders the event is set to be streamed live on Navy.mil.

The ceremony starts at 11am at Piers 86 and 88 and Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton will be the keynote speaker.

The USS New York is built with 7.5 tons of steel in its bow from the wreckage of the World Trade Center.

The ship left two weeks ago from a Louisiana shipyard and will leave for its home port of Norfolk Virginia on Thursday.

The public will then be able to tour the ship at Pier 88 on Sunday from 9am to 12pm at 12th Avenue and West 48th Street, and then from Monday from 9am to 4pm, Tuesday from 9am to 4pm and Wednesday from 9am to 2pm.

The USS New York (LPD21) is quite an impressive looking ship gliding on the Hudson River. 

The USS New York was opened to the public before the commissioning and as your post indicated, after the commissioning day.
