I am so happy that our politicians are actually looking into these issues and making them a part of public discussion and policy.
Mayor Gregor Robertson and Coun. Andrea Reimer are promising they will make Vancouver ready for peak oil.“We have to address peak oil,” Robertson told the Georgia Straight at City Hall. “That’s a hard reality.…I think it could end up compounding the looming challenges we face with oil supply and an economy that’s totally dependent on cheap energy right now.”
Peak oil refers to the point at which the rate of global oil production maxes out, sending the supply of the resource into an inevitable decline.

this is ridiculous, how is the mayor going to do anything of effect, let's get real , he's the mayor, not a wealthy businessman, not a senior politico deciding policy for the country. give me a break!

Don't be so negative Jack! In my opinion, mayors are the most powerful politicians in the world. With public support, a mayor can accomplish many great achievements. I think it's fantastic that mayor Gregor Robertson has made this statement. It shows that he is up on current events and has desire to take action based on that knowledge. Even if he accomplishes nothing, just mentioning Peak Oil and talking about it will help to raise awareness.
Go Gregor!
