Vancouver mayor police chief blame Stanley Cup riot on anarchists
“VANCOUVER -- Roving bands of anarchists and troublemakers bent on havoc set fires, broke windows and whipped up booze-fuelled mobs to create the worst riot in Vancouver’s history, Mayor Gregor Robertson said Thursday.
The mayor said there was no advance warning of the strategy, which caught police and city officials off guard, and may force them to take a different approach to security plans for large public gatherings in the future. “
Vancouver Sun
Vancouver Eco Green Mayor Gregor “A wheat field and chicken in every yard” Robertson and Vancouver Police Chief Jim “I wish I was Jamie Graham” Chu, along with Premier wannabe Christy “Full of Beans” Clark all share the sentiment of Canadians everywhere, the post Stanley Cup Riots left a black eye on Vancouver and its citizens, an event covered by world media showed an embarrassment in what was always touted by Politicians as “The best place to live in the world”, unless there is a Stanley Cup playoff.
While finger pointing at the riots cause and effect by all three seem to indicate anarchists, recent photos and evidence seems to belie their logic.
While Vancouver citizens are getting over the shock over the riot, deep seated outrage by the Vancouver citizenry want their “pound of flesh”. Social media has become the Holy Grail to lawmakers and a death knell to rioters in publicly identifying these rioters in the hopes of a trial and conviction to those who done this beautiful city wrong.
The above “like to haves” most likely will fall by the wayside by the very same people whose grandstanding claims to bring those to justice.
Christy Clark, infill B.C. premier, Vancouver Gregor Robertson and Jim Chu all must share some of the blame, with only Police Chief Jim Chu manning up and apologizing to the citizens of Vancouver. Christy and Gregor don life jackets and man the oars as they paddle upstream of this sh*tstorm.
Infill Premier Christy Clark’s liberal government and Mayor Robertson and their cost cutting measures putting law and order on the backburner also shows their inability to take the lead in a crisis, such as not remembering the last major 1994 Stanley cup riot or even lesser public dissent events which seem to happen at the drop of a hat in this burg.
Stating that it is only Anarchists is another convenient political excuse to appease the masses.
While I am sure there were some Anarchists in the mix, setting up another Task Force after the fact, all at the taxpayers’ expense of course will certainly show more than meets the eye. A Maple Ridge teen, Nathan Kotylak not identified as an anarchist by any definition, but an Olympic hopeful, who comes from an upper income family, is photographed and alleged to have stuffed a rag into the gas tank of a police cruiser and set it on fire. Certainly as more photos become available we will witness more evidence of bandwaggonry fueled by booze and idiocy.
Christy stating she wants convictions and jail time for the rioters is nice, just don’t hold your breath. Christy and her Liberal governments ongoing budget constraints against the courts has seriously backlogged cases up to a year, as well as the liberal government refusing to hire Sheriffs and judges just exacerbates the situation. As for Christy Clark as the chicken chested New Law and Order Sheriff and her Deputy sidekick Mayor Gregor “McNuggets” Robertson don’t count on any book being thrown at anyone, unless it’s a re-election pamphlet.
These Liberal government austerity measures show crime in British Columbia is just not a serious issue with the Liberals.
If Christy and Gregor are serious about getting those rounded up and prosecuted, perhaps a bounty of $1,000.00 (if a conviction results) for any photographic or video evidence, along with the names, addresses of any individual performing a criminal act. Hiring a lot more right thinking judges, 50 Sheriffs and 50 police officers would be a step in the right direction.
Here is a thought, ensure those convicted receive two years less a day in jail to hard labour, that would take the “piss and vinegar” out of these hooligans and show Vancouverites that these politicians have begun to grow a pair.
That would go a long way in curtailing future criminal acts in what was supposed to be a celebration of a sporting event.
While it is said the crowds were 100,000 strong, what does it say to bystanders watching complacently as the carnage goes on? No one but a few citizens took the initiative to stop what they saw was an illegal act.
They say strength in numbers is a great deterrent to anything, including crime, that is unless you’re a victim with 100,000 passive onlookers, just don’t count on those BCers to help you!
Note: Isn’t it ironic Politicians blame a few for the acts committed by many, yet a single Police officer assaults a deliveryman and the entire citizenry screams hysterically that the entire police force must pay! In the same breath do we remember those who wanted surveillance cameras removed on our city streets as they did not want big brother spying on them during the Olympics?
How hypocritical, Vancouver, how typical.
