Riots in Vancouver after Canucks Losing the 2011 Stanley Cup

When a sports riot breaks out in a city like Vancouver, it will be very well-documented: a population addicted to social media becomes a living, breathing CCTV system when the drunken few get too rowdy. Granville Street was trashed as angry hockey fans smashed windows, burned cars, and attacked other people, and most of the mayhem was captured on video.

Plenty of Vancouver riot videos ended up on YouTube: you can see them below. The Vancouver Police Department will be watching them, so you may as well, too.

Among the Vancouver riot video highlights:

  • Dumbass falls into burning car
  • Guy gets hit in the groin with a firecracker
  • Moron vs Port-a-Potty: place your bets
  • Security guard gets jumped as goons smash windows at The Bay
  • Pickup truck gets overturned

Vancouver Riot Aftermath

Here are some photos of the aftermath: Smashed windows and looted stores. Even NowPublic's office was not spared. The Granville strip is a mess, though. Volunteers organized via Facebook to clean up the city, and crowdsourced efforts to identify the rioters are also underway.

Riots should be carried out and enjoined as this couple decided to show their "rage" against this horrible sports contest outcome/result. The physical property damage created by the rioting crowd is never called for, and frankly, reflects poorly on the fans who are more appropriately centered.
