Vancouver electric trolleys are sort of working now according to our driver. He blames transit for not doing the job of cleaning and de-icing the wires. if you missed that meeting this morning give them a call.

After waiting at the bus stop for quite some time this morning I got hold of Translink BC who told me that there were "severe delays" on the trolley buses because of the ice on the lines. 50 buses were affected. They couldn't tell me when the next one would turn up. The bus drivers didn't seem to know much either.
In the end I took a different route via a couple of non-trolley buses. Please Translink, if you're reading - run the buses along the lines overnight like you did last year to stop them from freezing. And it would be nice if you could clear the 3 feet of snow at the bus stops so we don't go slipping and sliding when we get off the bus. Thanks.

Agreed! The fifty other people at my stop were less than pleased to be taking up the length of the block on the narrow pathway cleared in front of the stores on 4th Ave. It's a good thing the stores weren't open, or there'd have been people walking in the street; however, it is going to be a while before all those people find their way to their destination.

If the authorities want people to leave their cars at home, they are going to provide a reliable service. No trolley service? How do they operate in Finland for goodness sake.

My first bus chugged a slow death south on Fraser before I got out to walk 5 blocks to 41st - only to find all the trolleys lined up. Ended up walking to Victoria then back home to Broadway. It's an unusual circumstance and I knew there would be delays. Do I really want the city to waste my tax dollars to buy 50 more snowplows that would be needed for one week? No thanks - I'll just don my winter boots and leave some extra time. Now if you'll excuse me, I need a nap from all that walking!

Latest as of 16.10 PST: Translink says some trolley buses are now operating but others are not. Diesel buses are running on the lines that have been affected. Delays should be expected. The advice: wrap up warm and be prepared for a wait.
They couldn't tell me whether buses would be run overnight to prevent the lines from freezing as they did this morning.
