If this proposal goes through, I expect it will be news for a while in Vancouver. Anyone who's been downtown on a Saturday night recently might have the same question as me: is $20 million enough?

The final version the Granville Street goes before Vancouver City Council this week. If approved, the street would be radically redesigned in hopes of transforming it into downtown's most attractive thoroughfare.

The Downtown Vancouver Business Improvement Association is giving its approval.

Executive Director Charles Gauthier says the plan incorporates top-quality construction materials, "It's a choice between doing your kitchen in linoleum, which looks good for awhile and then it kind of gets worn down, and then you have to replace it, but it's cheap to do. Or you spend a little bit more money on a better floor finishing and it looks great and retains its value over time."

The estimated cost of the project is 20.8 million dollars. Funding is expected to be shared by the City and Translink.

More millions to blow on Olympic prettification, while the rate of homelessness continues to increase, the bus system continues to suck, and treatment for drug addiction continues to barely exist. Glad to hear they have their priorities straight.

I took this pic in the summer of 2006 when I expended some time in this city...

I snapped this picture as I walked along Granville Street.....cherry blossoms were just starting to appear and it was a beautiful spring day. As a Toronto resident, I always make sure Granville Street is on my "must do" list.
