Caracas, Venezuela, 10 October, 2008. Yesterday, all 115 Venezuelan McDonald´s shops were closed by government Tax officials (Seniat). This measure was taken by Seniat after an examination of accounting books showed, McDonald´s have not been paying taxes as requested by local law. This is not the first time, Venezuelan McDonald's have been fined for Tax Evasion. A similar closure took place in 2005. Venezuelan McDonalds is a franchise run by three local companies: Alimentos Nasif C.A., Alimentos Arcos Dorados de Venezuela C.A and Compañía Operativa de Alimentos-Corp C.A.

Venezuela continues to take a stance against the multinationals. If only the rest of the world would. If McDonald's must go about it's business it must respect local laws and tax regulation.
