Venezuela : military have been sidelined for objecting to Chavez's socialist ideology

Today I found these articles about the military in Venezuela. It is interesting to see that under a democratic point of view, sometimes I question myself what exactelly means freedom of speech?

I would love to see your reactions to that.

Hundreds of Venezuelan military officers are no longer assigned duties and have been relegated to their homes, quietly pushed aside for their dissent under President Hugo Chavez, according to former military commanders and a watchdog group.

Dissident army Gen. Angel Vivas Perdomo says he sought to defend the military's apolitical tradition when he asked the Supreme Court to toss out Chávez's order for troops to salute with the motto: ``fatherland, socialism or death -- we will triumph.''

''It's a motto from Fidel in Cuba that, on top of being unconstitutional, is absolutely undemocratic,''

Baduel accused Chavez of picking fights with Colombia and the United States in order to boost his popularity by stirring up "false nationalism."

He was referring to a scandal involving seized computer documents that appear to show Venezuelan government support for Colombia's main rebel army, the FARC. Chavez has cast the scandal as a conspiracy by the United States and Colombia to besmirch his government.

Ifcastro. I read this story before and will try to get its original source for posting here. Your stories are improving as they now include more sources.   Different views or comments on reactions are still needed though.

So far, I have not come read any reaction from the Venezuelan military forces on this exclusion allegations. However,  readers should be aware that CIA had made some training in Venezuelan Army like in others countries of the region. Furthermore, General Isaias Baduel - who attended notorious School of the Americas which promoted Human Rights violations - was a former Defence Minister of the current government but now opposes Chavez along his ex wife Marisabel Rodriguez. Readers also may peep at the following stories:Venezuela: Between Bullets and Ballots,  Ex Defence Minister rejects Venezuelan reform (updated), Chavez´s ex wife and now his political foe to run for local elections, Venezuela commemorates the 2002 failed coup (updated)

Rahul, sounds very unusual to me the way you always know what is a good source and what is a bad source, I am not used to have someone selecting sources that what I can read and what I can't. Your comments always drive me to believe the only "true" you know is the one that you want to report.

Ifcastro. It was pointed out your source was not the original one. There are no good or bad sources. Thar is precisely why I have suggested you to use more than one and different points of views. There are various interpretations of events. The more you use, the better for readers.

The only other view is to deny Chavez is on a power trip and plans to purge the military and have them repeat Castro's stupid motto until they, like in Cuba have no problem shooting their own people. Then he will disarm the rest of his people and what do you know just like Cuba. The I told you so's are getting closer and the Left like with Mugabe will say "I never saw it coming. and the people of Venezuela will suffer the same fate as those in Cuba, misery for everyone except a few.

lfcastro, I like this story. It's good stuff.  It worn't be long until socialists in the USA are chanting the same mantra.

So you get sent home instead of performing your duties if you disagree with the President.  If that were the case, I would have been home for 2 years under President Clinton following Black Hawk Down.  I will say this, He didn't have them imprisioned or killed as other countries have with descent.
