Updates: On Saturday 12 July 2008. The badly injured student- Douglas Rojas Jimenez- died. He was technically dead since Thursday but "politically" kept alive by breathing machines. More students protests are expected in the coming days at Merida. Rojas Jimenez had craduated from High School and expected to join University to study modern languages.

On Friday 11 July 2008, Merida city was heavily guarded as tension mounts over the injured students yesterday. Douglas Rojas Jimenez remains plug to a breathing machine as his student status is debated on the local news. Some have claimed he is not a University student at all while others state his enrolment in Law studies had just been approved. On the other hand, Colombian President, Alvaro Uribe is on his way to Coro -North western Venezuela - for a seven hour official visit.

Further clarification by official news sources have claimed Douglas Rojas Jimenez has brain death but continues to be kept alive by breathing machines. Such "clarification" only shows governmental concern over more student protests in Merida and few hours before an official visit of Colombian President Avaro Uribe.

According to a YVKE article, the badly injured student- 21 year old Douglas Rojas Jiménez- died this afternoon. He wasa law student and an active member of the official governing party (PSUV). It is unclear how he was shot during the protests.

Caracas, Venezuela, 10 July 2008. Four students were injured during clashed with police at Andes University (ULA) today in Merida, Soth Western Venezuela. One of these students in seriously ill as he was shot in the head. Students were protesting since yesterday against insecurity.

Thank you.  It is very important to keep the world advised of what's going on in Venezuela because the US mainstream media, political leaders and intellectuals want to appease Chavez - just like they appeased  Stalin and Castro while millions of innocent lives were destroyed.
