President Chavez Done with Homer Simpson; Baywatch Hawaii Replaces Show

CARACAS, Venezuela —  D'oh! A Venezuelan TV channel, under the watchful eye of President Hugo Chavez, has yanked "The Simpsons" off the air after a government agency ruled it may be inappropriate for children.

Taking its place: "Baywatch Hawaii."

Televen TV station spokeswoman Elba Guillen said Monday that the decision to hand over the daily 11 a.m. time slot came after the state National Telecommunications Commission said it had received complaints from viewers.

"It had to be taken off," Guillen said. "They consider it to be a series that isn't appropriate for that time because it isn't appropriate for children."

This compares with the 1971 publication of the book "How to Read Donald Duck - Imperialist ideology in the Disney Comic" by Dorfman & Mattleart

Ha! I never thought that The Simpsons was marketed towards children, even if it is animated... I'm confused, though, how Baywatch: Hawaii is somehow a better choice.

Maybe because breasts are more comforting than Homer?

I dunno.
