Venezuelan Chavez, Brazilian Lula and Argentinan Fernandez met at Buenos Aires
Caracas, Venezuela, 5 August 2008. This afternoon, the Head of State from Venezuela, Brazil and Argentinian met at Buenos Aires. This trilateral Summit was aimed at strengthening political ties, strategic alliance and regional challenges.
Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez proposed a rail link from Caracas to Buenos Aires. Chavez also asked for the relaunching of their South America gas pipe project. The Venezuelan participation in Mercosur was analysed. Brazil and Argentina backed the Venezuelan membership to Mercosur.
In a later event with Chavez at Buenos Aires, Argentinean President Cristina Fernandez stated that it was time to forge another independence in the region. It was time to fight against poverty, exclusion and social inequality, Fernandez added.
A new Trilateral Summit will be held in Brazil in September 2008.
