Vicki Huntington is the first Independent candidate to win a BC riding in 60 years.
Independent candidate Vicki Huntington has defeated high-profile B.C. Liberal cabinet minister Wally Oppal in the riding of Delta South in one of two provincial election recounts concluded on Tuesday.
The recount confirmed Huntington's win by a mere 32 votes.
Oppal, the province's attorney general, was declared the winner in Delta South by just three votes on election day, May 12, but after Tuesday's recount included absentee ballots, Huntington came out ahead by 32 votes.
One more automatic recount for the riding is expected due to the tiny margin of victory.

The first in 60 years, that is some achievement. Ontario and Quebec have a few independent in every elections that manage to get elected so it seem. Why not in BC though would good to know.

60 years for an elected independent but Jack Kempf was an independent in the 90's after the social credit party did'nt like him no more eventhough he was their forrest minister.

Definitely a closely contested election in that riding.
