Caracas, 18 November 2008. Today, the Vietnam President Nguyen Minh Triet arrived  to Caracas for a three day official visit. Minh Triet is accompanied by a 177 member delegation. Vietnam and Venezuela are keen on forging a commercial strategic alliance. They might also set moving some energy cooperation gas and oil deals. Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez visited Hanoi in 2006. The Venezuelan Oil Company PDVSA intends to open a representative office in Vietnam soon. After visiting Caracas, President Minh Triet will travel to Peru to attend the APEC Summit over the weekend.

Buenos Aires (VNA) – Vietnam and Venezuela have successfully completed negotiations for a vehicle production joint venture in Venezuela, Cuba’s Prensa Latina news agency cited Venezuelan diplomatic sources as saying.  Trade agreements were reached between Vietnam’s Vinamotor company and a delegation from Venezuela's Ministry of Light Industry and Trade (Milco) during a visit to Vietnam recently. Signed documents by the two sides include the creation of a joint venture for the construction of light duty trucks, motorcycles and a cement plant. From now until May next year, Vinamotor will send experts to Venezuela to implement the projects.
BACKGROUNDER: Vietnam, Venezuela sign eight cooperation deals. Vietnam and Venezuela signed eight agreements on economic, cultural, tourism, scientific, technological and communication cooperation after their first meeting of the Inter-governmental Commission in Caracas on August 22.  Buenos Aires (VNA) – Under an agreement, Vietnam will build a factory to produce energy-saving lamps in Venezuela to meet the local demand and other markets in the Caribbean and Latin American regions.  
Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez announced that the country’s national petroleum group Petroleos de Venezuela S.A (PDVSA) will open its representative office in Hanoi to boost cooperation with the Vietnam National Oil and Gas Group (PetroVietnam).  President Hugo Chavez further said at the end of the meeting that PetroVietnam is identifying the size of Junin field in the Orinoco range, which is reportedly contain largest reserve of petroleum in the world.
The two countries plan to jointly build a plant in Vietnam to refine crude oil, which will be pumped up from Junin field by PDVSA and PetroVietnam. In addition, the two companies also plan to set up a sea transport joint venture, which will develop its own fleet to transport oil to the refinery
