The View Welcomes Obama July 28: Talks About Clinton, Sherrod
President Obama Appeared on The View July 28 2010 and Discussed a Wide Range of Topics
Obama taped the show on Wednesday that aired on Thursday and answered questions from topics such as Chelsea Clinton's wedding in Rhinebeck NY, to Sherry Sherrod, Mel Gibson and the war in Afghanistan.
Obama had previously appeared on the show as a presidential candidate, but this was his first visit to the show as president.
“I was trying to find a show that Michelle actually watched,” the president quipped.
He joined Barbara Walters, Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar, Sherri Shepherd and Elisabeth Hasselbeck who wasted no time asking the President about how his economic stimulus program 'saved' jobs. Obama replied that people kept their jobs because the program benefited employers.
Joy Behar said that Obama was not getting enough credit for the work that he was doing, but when the topic turned to the war in Afghanistan he said that the effort there had to be increased to 'root out terrorists'.
“I’m not interested in open-ended commitment,” he said, recalling that when he announced a new policy for Afghanistan last December, he said he was more interested in “nation-building” at home.
Obama went on to praise his recent vacation with his family in Maine, but admitted to Barbara Walters that the effort of trying to save jobs over the past year-and-a-half, managing wars, an oil spill and a flu pandemic were definitely the 'thorns' in his side.
He also addressed the recent controversy of the firing of Sherry Sherrod and blamed the media for creating the hype that surrounded that story. He also acknowledged that the administration was to blame for overreacting.
When asked about the upcoming wedding of Chelsea Clinton, he said that he was not invited because it would be tough enough to have one president at a wedding, let alone two. He said he supported the Clinton's decision not to invite him.
"I'm letting you guys know now, you all probably will not be invited to Malia's wedding," he quipped.
Obama also joked that he did not know who Snooki was from the Jersey Shore (as she seems to be a McCain fan anyway), he knew that Lindsay Lohan was in jail, only about 10 people have his BlackBerry number, he doesn't know if Mel Gibson needs anger management counseling and he has 'some 20-year-old' do his Twittering for him.
