Viewers’ fury as news shows axed in BBC mass walkout
Millions of licence fee payers were angered as news shows were replaced with repeats and pre-recorded videos as journalists went on a 24-hour strike over planned job cuts.
The industrial action, which coincided with school half-term, meant presenters such as Susanna Reid and Bill Turnbull were missing as BBC Breakfast was cancelled.
The corporation’s morning TV show was replaced by Bargain Hunt and Escape To The Country.
And instead of John Humphrys and Evan Davis on Radio 4, six million listeners of the Today programme woke up to pre-recorded shows on economics and the resignation of Pope Benedict.
The Six O’Clock News was presented by Chris Rogers, who replaced the usual team of George Alagiah and Sophie Raworth.
Newsnight, due to be hosted by Jeremy Paxman and Kirsty Wark, was replaced with a repeat of Brian Cox’s Wonder Of Life science series.....Read more
