Bhubaneswar: The National Human Rights Commission has registered a case in allegedly violation of Standard Operation Procedure(SOP) by police in Odisha’s maoist affected area.

Acting on a complaint of Human Rights Activist Akhand of odisha-based India Media Centre, NHRC registered the case. Due to the violation of SOP on January 05 last year three Jawans were killed and three were injured in a landmine blast in Kandamal distict of Odisha. Due to negligence and irresponsibility of the higher police official, Sunasir Mohanty, Uma Jani and Sangram Lenka were killed, the petitioner alleged. They were all working in Kandhamal Reserve Battalion. The blast took place around 10.30 in the morning at Srirampur road under kotpada police limit. In this case Standard Operation Procedure(SOP) is grossly violated by the higher police officials. These Jawans were going to inspect a landmine blast day before the incident. According to SOP, the team should be headed by a police officer. But no police officer was in the team. And when a land mine blast is occurred,  vehicle movement is prohibited in that road as per SOP. But local SP ordered them to go in a van and inspect the previous day land mine situation without an officer, the petitioner said. Taking the issue NHRC has registered the case for its consideration.
