"Hi this is Mark Mayhew in Galveston and since yesterday's report was kind of bleak or not positive, wanted to give a more positive view of Galveston's recovery from Ike today because there are 2 stories that people in Galveston are talking about today that are on the front page of the Galveston daily news. Number one is that the Galveston National Laboratory is opening today and it's a 174 million dollar national biodefense lab that was controversial because it's in a hurricane (so?). And it will be dealing with deadly germs and that's why there's controversy. Anyway the other thing today is the ferry, the Port Bolivar Galveston ferry opens and I haven't been on it yet and that's where I'm on my way to today. Bolivar's still heavily damaged. It's under curfew but I wanna see, to ride the ferry. If you know anything about me at New Orleans, I love the ferry there so I'm gonna check out the ferry and I'll have my camera and I could do video from there. Anyway that's 2 positive
developments in Galveston today so things are looking up and I want to apologize again. Sorry these are boring 'cause it's just me. I promised some interviews for (the?) Ike survivors in Galveston residence and that's coming. It's just hard, the people are busy. It's hard to pull out of the phone and interview people but I'm gonna get to it. And I wanted to thank everyone that supported my community funded reporting effort yesterday and hope it continues today. Your help in support not only community funded reporting but the rebuilding of Galveston. Anyway"
...more. Please listen to your voicemail for the remainder of this message.
