Only in Canada can you actually run a campaign based on an issue of actually adding a new tax ( Dion's carbon Tax) on to already taxed upto to the neck public and still hope to win.
I was born in India and kinda grew up enough to see the modus operanda untill I was 16 and came to Canada about 20 years ago.Let me tell you what happens in a country like India when you start talking about raising even Gas prices or any other commodity for that matter , let alone adding a new tax; people throw you out (literally) even before you can even implement your thoughts on paper.
Today even Gas prices in India are cheaper than Canada ( Unlike canada,India has no oil resources).
Here Stephane Dion says we are going to add more taxes if we win and we take it and even vote for him so he can make his vision of screwing us a reality.Remember the GST story by the Liberals; it was supposed to be just for a little time so we can pay down our debt. It stayed at 7 percent and hundreds of billions were collected but guess what they forgot to pay our debt, until the conservatives came in power , two decades after the fact and cut the GST and paid down a little debt.
Unreal ! no one says anything."what can we do" is prevailent in our society.
Let's see now, the economy is in a slump, people are losing their homes to foreclosures (not just because of bad loans but also for other reasons), people are going hungry because they can barely pay for the gas to go to work and the politicians want more money so they can grow their bureaucracies some more, oh yeah don't forget they want pay raises also that the people won't even be allowed to vote on.
Don't even get me started on our leaders doing nothing about rising commodity prices, grocery prices are at 200% or more from a year and a half ago.what's next food riots.
No, I don't think I want to increase taxes for all those people that are already having a hard time making it to tomorrow.
We been fear mongered to Death. And we are civilized.Gimme a break.
Only in Canada can we be this submissive.

Just look at Joe Clark brilliant election campaign for proof that campaigning on raising gas taxes is not a winning strategy.
