The polls in the 2008 US election are now starting to close. People were lining up statewide to vote; to cast their ballot for the next President of the United States. Poll results will start to trickle in soon, but let's have a look at what people are saying about voting in this Presidential election on twitter, and how their voting experience was. Election updates will be ongoing.

For the most part, it seems like the lines were not that long:

@delmer the first time I voted today was quick, but everytime I go back the line gets longer!
IM BACK AND I VOTED! And Barack better win Philly, cus I knocked on about 100 doors in the rain and threatened one kid's life for not voting
Voted... and there was NO LINES WHAT SO ever... so some poeple need to go and VOTE!! it's today people. I did it and so can you
@mikeschinkel , voting lines were small in San Diego but at least there was a hot girl voting next to me..I voted for Nadar by accident. ha
Voted in the ghetto which meant in and out in 5. Even surprised myself by voting presidentially, but I will never tell you who I voted for.
Twitter ate SMS post. Just voted. No line. Machine worked right. History is being made, and I'm watching eagerly.
voted at 6am...there was a line of 12 people...usually i'm #1 or 2 to vote in my district...this time i was #3...i sure didtn mind waiting
I voted! And it took me 0 minutes too! Although the old lady in front of me was chatty with workers there. Unlike Holmes- I was on the list
I have voted. Hardly any line.

Voted! And in less than ten minutes, too, minus a brief mix-up on polling places. And I left work two hours early just in case, too.
I just voted for Changey Change Change --- with no waiting. The turnout looks surprising light.
Voted in just under an hour. I wish I could say that I felt like my vote counts,So was it a waste of time or being a good citzen? Thoughts?
I voted. No line. Get out there people, let your voice count! #beatprop8
I voted. Voter 139. No line at 10:10 a.m. at Wes Watkins. Kind of disappointed, but still excited. Lots of Obama shirts on campus today!
Line @ tacobell is exponentially longer than the one @ where I just voted! Somethings wrong!
@babyboomerbev So many voted early here that I was in and out in no time this morning.
Just voted! No wait, my town was v organized. :) I had a flutter in my chest when I filled in my Obama/Biden bubble.
I voted! Apparently we now use a paper ballot and ballot reader system.
Happy that I voted and that it only took a few minutes!
I have voted. No lines, no confusion, ballot #544 to be read by the AccuScan. GOBAMA!
Just voted. Timed it right too. No line going in but one forming as I left.
I am at work and annoyed. I voted this morning and I didn't even have to wait in line!
just voted.no lines but they had a lot of machines for everyone to use.i have never been so excited/proud to vote before!
just voted an hour ago. I think I was the only one at the polling place under 50. Hope it's not a trend.
I voted in 5 minutes..
I voted, now it's your turn. No lines, but 300 people had voted at my poll after only an hour and half.
I voted! Took an hour in line.

A quite vote in California:

I voted at bud rank and I was the only one there (except the check in lady)

Most voters are pretty excited about their free Starbucks coffee, donuts, and Chick Fil A they get for voting!

I voted, AND got my free coffee... peppermint mocha to be exact. Mmm.... Now if only someone were massaging my feet... hehe
Sipping my free Starbuck's because I voted
Free chick fil a sandwich and free starbucks coffee w/ i voted sticker
only 30m wait when I voted. Remember Free Starbucks and Krispy Kreme with your "I voted" sticker. http://tinyurl.com/6zo4no
I voted so now I'm headed to Starbucks for free coffee. Gotta love FREE!

Seems however, that there could be some trouble brewing with the voting machines. This tweet is from Atlanta, Georgia:

me voted! 2.5 hours later AND! the machine breaking on us as I am stepping up. I hope my paper ballot counted.

Here's more about the voting process:

I just voted using one of those crazy voting machines. I think I voted for Al Gore on accident.
I cast my ballot with the electronic voting machine. I verified the printout as I voted. #clevote08 #votereport http://tinyurl.com/56ewes

Long lines to vote in South Carolina and Pennsylvania:

It is finished. I voted and it only took me 4.5 hours.
one hour and twenty later I have voted. I was #872 here

However, not in Minnesota:

@mnvotes #mnvotes #votereport #55126 #good L:Shoreview, MN i voted @ 11:45am only waited behind 1 person to check in. smooth sailing!

The line at Norton Younglove Community Center & Highgrove Fire Station was very short. There was about 8 people ahead of me. But since I already had my official ballot, all I had to do was drop mine off.

I went and did my early voting on the second day here in Nashville. I went right after work and was surprised at the lack of a line when I went in (though there was a line when I was done). Still, it took me less than 10 minutes and I'm rather proud of this sticker. :)

amyjudd, I like this story. It's good stuff. I participated in the early voting process in spite of the attempts by Republicans and Democrats inside the voting area to deny my vote on the basis of an expired voters registration card. They accepted my driver's license.

Voted today.  There was a line, that is, two were ahead of me.  Still, it will be a busy day. Oh, Bird, if you're wondering where your lone vote came from . . . yup.

Voted.
NO LINE!
Then went to Krispy Creme to get a free donut & Starbucks to get a free coffee.
Don't you love America.

I had to vote using a paper ballot.  I used a machine last time.  I found it a little suspicious.  That's backwards Dallas, TX for you!

After voting, I stopped at this Starbucks in Mercer Island, Washington and they gave me a free cup of coffee.
