Police in Brazil have accused Wallace Souza, a state legislator and TV host of organizing killings to get rid of rivals and boost ratings for his anti-gang TV show.

Wallace Souza cannot be arrested due to legislative immunity, but his son has been arrested and charged with drug trafficking and murder, along with a number of other people.

The TV show crew would always arrive at the site of the murders before police and prompted an investigation. Police believe that at least five murders can be attributed to his gang and were designed to prove Souza's claims that the region he represented was ridden with crime.

Wallace Souza, who is also a state legislator, says the claims are an attempt by rivals to smear him and that there is no evidence to back them.

But the police say he ordered killings in the state of Amazonas and alerted TV crews to get them to the scene first.
