I took this back in 95 on an aid convoy with members from the mormon church to croatia/Bosnia when the war was on we were taking food parcels too the little villages in the country side, as you will see all the women wear black because every one of them has lost a family member due to the war, each parcel wheighed a fair bit and these old folk were very greatfull and amazed that people who they didnt know and lived so far away cared enough to drive thousands of miles to get food to them, when i got back home i was really pissed off with people who moaned over trivial things when they had so much in comparrison. This shot was also used for the openning page of a book recording the events

I was part of an aid convoy for the church of latter day saints and at that time we were the only group allowed to deliver aid into the villages and to the people, even the red cross was not allowed and like many other aid agencies were only allowed to drop the aid at a given location and it made us think if all the aid was distributed fairly, it was an eye opening experience for many of us as it was pointed out to me all the women wore black due to they had all lost a family member because of the war.
I was blessed to be able to have this experience and to help even though it felt like a drop in the ocean compared to the huge scale of what needed to be done. i was also lucky to go a second time to help later on in the year.
The hardship and suffering these people went through will stay in my memory for the rest of my life i only wish i could have done more as did the others in the team.
