FLDS Leader Warren Jeffs Found Guilty of 2 Counts of Child Rape

Warren Jeffs, leader of the Fundamentalist Church of Latter Day Saints (FLDS), has been found guilty of two counts of child rape. Among the evidence submitted during the trial was an audio recording capturing what prosecutors said was Jeffs raping the 12-year-old.

Jeffs faces a life sentence. Warren Jeffs took a 12-year-old girl and a 15-year-old girl as "spiritual wives", subjecting them both to sexual assault. A DNA test linked Warren Jeffs to the son of the 15-year-old, who is now 20.

The Warren Jeffs trial is the result of a 2008 raid on the FLDS ranch, during which police found several underage girls who were visibly pregnant.

Warren Jeffs' behavior during the trial was strange to the end:

Every five minutes, District Court Judge Barbara Walther would remind Jeffs of the time. Spectators in the gallery exchanged smiles and odd glances. One security officer did his best to stifle a yawn.

Finally, at the conclusion of the 25 minutes allotted to Jeffs for his summation, Jeffs turned toward the jury with a slight smile and said quietly, "I am at peace."

"12-year-old girl and a 15-year-old girl as spiritual wives",

This sounds similar to the David Koresh Branch Davidian religion 1993 in Waco, TX.
