As Many As Nine People Have Been Confirmed Wounded and Four Are Dead in a Mass Shooting in Washington DC: Motive Behind Shooting Not Known

Up to nine people have been reported wounded according to the Washington Post, and four people have now been confirmed dead in the southern part of Washington DC. MSNBC reports that the shooting was an apparent drive-by and that one person died on the scene in the 4000 block of South Capitol Street.

Some of the people shot are considered to be in critical condition and all the wounded have been taken to hospital. The Post reports that the shooting took place around 7:30pm local time near the Bolling Air Force Base and the Blue Plains sewage treatment plant. Some of the people that were shot were found in the South Capitol Street corridor.

All of the wounded were in their 20s and 30s, except for one teen according to BNO News.

Four police pursued a car that they believed to be involved in the shooting.

An AK47-type weapon reportedly was thrown from a green sedan that police chased through parts of D.C. and across the Prince George's County line.

The police car crashed in the 5600 block of St. Barnabas Road and the four officers injured.

A motive for the shooting is not known, but this is being called one of most violent incidents in Washington in recent months.
