According to FAO, the UN Food and Agriculture Organization, the world is wasting enough rice this year to feed 184 million people, about a fifth of those who are undernourished. The amount lost between harvest and consumers globally totals at least 48 million tons. Per year.

I heard, but have not verified, but truly believe to be true or I wouldn't repeat it, that the US throws away more food than some countries eat.
Why are we such a wasteful people...it shames me.
In my home we have worked hard over the years to not waste so much.
We work very hard on only purchasing and cooking what we need, and if there are left overs, they are used in another meal, never thrown away.
I think most waste happens because of lack of planning, and ease of preparation.
We choose things that are easy and quick, which usually come with more packaging, and more helpings...
