Explosion at William C. Franks Furniture Store in Wayne, Michigan
An explosion destroyed a furniture store in Wayne, Michigan, trapping two people inside. The owner of Franks Furnitue, Paul Franks, was taken to the hospital in critical condition.
The explosion was apparently caused by a natural gas leak. So far, rescue workers have been unable to locate those trapped inside the collapsed store. Police have evacuated nearby homes and businesses.
Franks is being treated in the trauma burn unit, hospital spokeswoman Shantell Kirkendoll said.
Two other people believed to be employees are still inside the building, Zech said, but their names are not being released until family members are notified.
Groups of firefighters entered the building four and five at a time, scraping away at the rubble using long poles with hooks on the end.
