Wow NowPublic was Website of the day.  Na Web site of the year.

News. The world is obsessed with it. Dip your toe in current affairs and you're soon sucked in by the maelstrom that is the news.

Research suggests that when something big happens, people go looking to the names they trust. In the UK that's the BBC, The Times or Reuters. Elsewhere it's CNN or Al Jazeera (or in cloud cuckoo land it's Fox News).

Now Public offers a slightly different perspective, in that it's people powered.

What that means is that the stories here are either written by or recommended by it's users and far from that being a twee little collection of aimless ramblings, that means it has it's virtual finger on the collective pulse. It's simple to upload your photos, video or audio or even just let them know about what you're currently reading about.

A useful alternative news source.

Downunder chating up the Great White North - NowPublic

IF YOU depend on the internet to keep track of what's happening you probably have a couple of websites that you like to visit for an update.

Perhaps you prefer The Courier-Mail's internet page, or maybe it's the ABC or the BBC.

Now there's another option with a couple of websites that are "people powered" providing a different perspective on what's happening.

NowPublic is one such page that describes itself as "a participatory news network which mobilises an army of reporters to cover the events that define our world".

"In 12 short months, the company has become one of the fastest growing news organisations with thousands of reporters in over 140 countries," the site explained.

"By harnessing the wisdom of crowds, and tapping into the news- creating potential of the hundreds of millions of Internet users, bloggers and photography enthusiasts, NowPublic is changing the way news is made and distributed."

politisite, I like this story. The more people who join the better. It's a good way of getting alternative news in and perhaps real news as opposed to celebrity trivial.

Good for us! And what's with the Fox smear? Can't they just get over the fact that Fox News is a heck of a lot more interesting than each and every one of its competitors?

Anyways, good stuff.

BigT, It is typical for folks who disagree to jab a few times.  Folks point to those who left Fox saying there is a bias.  We how about that, NBC disgruntled employees who get their work nixed and speak out never seem to get on the news.  Watch one eposode of Countdown and tell me there is no bias over there.  We are are biased.  I look at my work and try to do better.  Early on I used to say things like, the liberal NBC, well that was biased.  The other day I saw an article that said, "the neo-nazi sympathizer, Sean hannity.  Speaking that sean is a Catholic, and the pope was forced as all children in Germany to attand a school run by the Nazis.  Its out there.  Over the years, I have learned to make my point with our adjectives and allow others to come to a conclusion.  You know me, I also post opposition to my views as well.  Yes world, I am a right leaning Liberatatrian...  not a neo-con like I get called.  Yes world I am a social, fiscal, and Defence conservative, not a right wing extremist like I am called.  If folks really understood politics they would see me slightly right.  I am also interested in green tech, what?  yes.  I also beleive in social equality as I am a Christian, so what do you call me?  It is really easy, BigT, to label so as to negate... wasn't that Kierkegaard, oh my.  didn't he assult Christians?  what a mess I am.  I guess to put me in a box doesn't jive.  The guys who point out where one stands thinks his/her readers are uneducated.  Show intellectual superiority.  This who answer comments with paragraphs, well don't have a life!

I am told a tiny bit LOL.  I have been here since December and I haven't even pulled in 1/2 a million views  yet.  I think it is a little less than 100,000 views  a month.
