West Indies vs Sri Lanka Video Highlights - WI Tri-Series 2013
West Indies vs Sri Lanka Video Highlights of West Indies Tri-Series 2013, 1st ODI Match on June 28th played at Sabina Park, Kingston, Jamaica. Chris Gayle put in a virtuoso performance as he hit 109 to guide the West Indies to a six-wicket victory over Sri Lanka in Jamaica.
The 33-year-old found the boundary for fun in a knock that included nine fours and seven sixes from 100 deliveries on his way to his 21st one-day international century.
That was enough to give his side an easy victory in the opening fixture of the triangular tournament.
Sri Lanka were looking to bounce back from their semi-final defeat to India in the recent ICC Champions Trophy, and at one stage they looked good value for the win as they raced to 104-3, after being put into bat by the hosts.
But Sunil Narine (4-40) and Ravi Rampaul (3-38) tore through the middle order as Sri Lanka fell to 208 all out.
And with Gayle at the crease the West Indies never looked in trouble, as they breezed to their target, eventually finishing on 209-4 after 37.5 overs.
Sri Lanka made a steady start to their innings with Upul Tharanga and Mahela Jayawardene finding regular runs, but their 62-run partnership was brought to an end when left-hander Tharanga (25) tickled a short Dwayne Bravo delivery to wicket-keeper Denesh Ramdin.
Jayawardene's 52 came from as many deliveries and included seven boundaries, before he fell victim to Narine's first over. He tried to defend the off-spinner's delivery but he inside-edged onto his pad before the ball popped up for Ramdin to take the catch.
That brought Kumar Sangakkara to the crease, but he could only add 17 before he pushed a Narine delivery to extra cover where Kieron Pollard showed safe hands.
Angelo Mathews (55 not out) resisted for Sri Lanka but he quickly ran out of partners.
Dinesh Chandimal was the first of three wickets to fall for just 19 runs when he picked out Bravo at midwicket from Marlon Samuels' ball. Lahiru Thirimanne (six) soon followed when he lofted a full Rampaul delivery to Johnson Charles at long off.
And Rampaul struck again in the 38th over as Nuwan Kulasekara (two) top-edged to Pollard at deep square leg, as Sri Lanka slumped to 159-6.
Mathews continued to offer resistance but when Samuels caught Jeevan Mendis (five) at deep square for Narine's third wicket, it was left to the West Indies to blitz through the lower order.
