Contrary to the claims of the pro-LTTE "carnival barkers," The WFP in association with the Government of Sri Lanka and the ICRC has taken measures to dispatch emergency food aid to the area where tens of thousands of Tamil civilians are held hostage by the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), a terrorist outfit which is proscribed in more than 30 countries.

This news makes the claims of the terrorist proxies, that GoSL is using food as a weapon of war, totally baseless and unfounded.

COLOMBO – WFP has dispatched 1,000 metric tons of critically needed humanitarian food assistance to Puthumathalan, the designated ‘safe zone’ along the coast of Mullaitivu in northeastern Sri Lanka, where an estimated more than 100,000 people have been displaced by fighting.

The WFP food assistance was sent aboard a ship chartered by the Government of Sri Lanka sailing under the flag of the International Committee of the Red Cross, and was due to be unloaded by the weekend.

“The Government’s timely provision of a large-capacity vessel enabled WFP and other partners to ship this urgently needed assistance,” said Adnan Khan, WFP Representative and Country Director.  “This is the largest shipment we have sent and it comes at a crucial time for these people.”

Since road convoys to Vanni were discontinued in late January 2009 due to security concerns, WFP, with the support of the Government, has dispatched a total of 2,219 metric tonnes, including this most recent dispatch, using the sea route.  In addition to these shipments to the conflict zone, WFP is helping the Government to meet the food needs of nearly 60,000 displaced people who fled the conflict zone and are currently accommodated in transit camps/welfare villages in Jaffna, Mannar and Vavuniya.

whose reports to believe. is there any reporter alive in lanka who doesnt lick the feet of rajapakse and the sinhalese hardliners? i am sure if this reporter said anything close to the truth or slightly deviant from the pre-written press release of rajapakse office he might be killed in the street corner if not in his own house.

I think WFP has a new category added to their programs. FTTA (Feed the Tiger Terrorists Also).

Right now, Prabhakaran and his mules are also eating food supplied by GOSL.

The World Food Programme (WFP) officials in Sri Lanka say there has been no let down in their food distribution to the people trapped in the battle zone.

Ms. Asrat also confirms that “ there has been no pressure from the Government to bar sending of food items” to the people trapped in the War torn area.

She says that the organisation is working closely with the Government for better supply of food materials to the needy. The food shipment has not come under attack according to Aseb Asrat.

If you are doing nothing, read Tamilnet and believe them and be happy.

Don't believe these reports. Be happy in your little Terrorist kissing world!

For you being in Chennai, you can't even imagine that these events are happening.
