It made the cover of magazines all over the U.S. for the last year or so. Articles have been written in newspapers.  It's been discussed by national pundits and it's all over the internet; the discussion of race.

A recent Associated Press/Yahoo poll, using a methodology with the aid of Stanford University, revealed some disturbing data that will be pondered by many for insight into the rationale behind racial perceptions.

The hundreds of years history, occurring on the land that later came to be known as the United States of America, gave rise to racist attitudes and behaviors that, only in the most recent times, maybe fifty or so years, have been condemned by the majority of American society.

Even today, crusading under the guise of the need to throw out the 'politically correct' handbook, some feel seeking a respectful, middle ground, abandoning racially charged language and discounted beliefs and theories of inferiority of one group or the other undesirable, instead claiming a right to espouse their ideas and opinions, seeking to rally those of like minds.

We're told all are entitled to freedom of speech no matter how vile others may view their speech. Yet, in many communities not of the majority, First Amendment claims are skirted for the purpose of silencing them yet, freedom of speech is not 'trampled upon' when others employ the same behavior.

Nothing should protect an individual or group that threatens death or harm to an individual or group when it is known the threatening individual or group has a history of violence.

But, the legacy of racism in America, which many continue to believe doesn't exist unless someone of another race outside of the majority in America mentions it, remains akin to a sore on an extremity, suffered by a diagnosed diabetic.

The healing process for a diabetic sore is often long. The tissue seems to defy mending itself. In some cases, the sore will not heal, often requiring the sacrifice of the limb to save the rest of the body.

"What does change mean?", asked a seventh grade teacher in Marianna, Florida.

He wrote on the white board in front of his racially mixed class:

Come Help A N----r Get Elected

Good time to bring this up.  What is everybody talking about?  Evidently not the same thing to everyone, although the word sounds and looks the same no matter who says it.  Yes, it is a metaphor.  Every word is a fuzzy set according to MacCormic.

This is a great story. However, I wish someone would reveal some of the negative aspects of Obama. Like his connection with street artist Shepard Fairey. I find it hard to support a candidate who supports a known copyright violator and petty street criminal. Street art clean up cost the US between 10 and 15 billion per year!

Was this supposed to be a coherently-worded article?  I'm pretty sure your English teacher would be cringing right now if he/she could read this.

Honestly, what's your point here?  So there's a racist jerkwad teaching in Florida; he's probably going to be run out of town on a rail.  What does this have to do with a presidential campaign?

You talk about how freedom of speech is so important -- at least I think that's what you're saying, though honestly it's hard to tell -- and yet you think there's something wrong with "claiming a right to espouse [one's] ideas and opinions"?  How does that work?

Don't get me wrong; I'm no McCain fan, but I really don't think you're doing your candidate any favors by serving up this word salad with a side of skewed logic.

Whatever may be the point of your comment, please be advised the commentary was not meant to aid any candidate.

The commentary was not about the presidential campaign, aside from the implied reference to the candidate that initially crafted, as part of his campaign strategy, a call for change.

The focus of the commentary was race, societal complexities and resultant actions and attitudes, often influenced by race.

"Change" at the beginning of this campaign season was a rallying cry for hope.  Once, it was successful, McCain-Bush turned it into a commodity, blatantly stealing it.  Remember "Change You Deserve"?  They stole the idea from Obama and the words from a drug company.

Notice they left "hope" alone?

its trully brutal of that incident at the classroom, modern education has been empowering many brainless fools in the class as managers. wat else should i say at the moment? if anyone wishes to be a teacher, let him/her think whats the responsibility a thosand,  not really enough, a million times before that tragedy happens...

The fact that Obama's campaign message of change is without definition and has been left vague enough for each individual voter was his genius. Change only means what you want it to mean.

Now we'll see now what he's really all about, vs. a brilliant campaign to get elected.
