Better Solutions (PDF) - A compilation of GOP policy alternatives presented to President Barack Obama by Republican Leader John Boehner (R-OH) on January 29, 2010.

- The GOP Healthcare Alternative provides affordable access to all
  Americans, instead of mandating a one-size-fits-all health system;

- The American Energy Act promotes affordable energy, more well-paying
  jobs, energy independence, and a cleaner environment;

- The GOP No-Cost Jobs Plan stops wasteful spending and tax hikes,
  helps small businesses, and removes unnecessary barriers
  to American energy production.;

- The GOP Budget controls the national debt, does not raise taxes,
  and achieves lower deficits than the President's.
  to American energy production.;

- The GOP Financial Reform Plan will bring a new era of
  responsibility to the government and Wall Street.”

See for yourself.

Here is one example of Republican nonsense that is their first recommendation.

“Halt Any Proposed Rule or Regulation Expected to Have an Economic Cost, Result in Job Loss, or Have a Disparate Impact on Small Businesses”

Making blanket statements without examining specifics is bad regulation such as the regulation during the Republican years resulting in Wall Street collapse. Congress should not pass bad regulation. If regulation is needed to control small business bad practices or harmful behavior, so be it. All regulation has some potential negative impact on employment, so this idea is consistent with DO NOTHING.

“Eliminate Job Killing Federal Tax Increases”

Republicans don’t want to let the Bush tax rollback expire on the wealthy. The wealthy should be taxed and Middle American should get the break.

“Demonstrate a Commitment to Lowering the Deficit Now Without Raising Taxes By Freezing Domestic

Discretionary Spending at Last Year’s Level”

I totally agree and would even go further. Reduce the size of government by at least 33% in four years. Have some guts you mamzy-panzy Republicans.

OK, there are some worthwhile ideas in there. The Democrats and Republicans need to work together because an all-Democrat or and all-Republican plan neither is best.
