What is WHO’s really worried about, we now have a pandemic concerning the cross barrier H1N1 Swine fever?  Statistics so far prove the strain is much weaker than general flue (of which I may add is a normal yearly pandemic).

I myself live in the Philippines and have caught flue many times, but the flue tends to last a lot longer the common strains. The norm is more than 3 or 4 weeks though last year more than 5 weeks. The runny nose and fever and the damn back pains and runnier nose days.

I believe the real panic is the effect that such flue can have on the Economies in the west is the real threat seen by WHO.  Each time there has been an outbreak of flue past on by animals its been noted that human host pass on a much weaker strain of flue. But what is not being said is how long this weaker strain survives in the human host.

The panic to get a inoculation against this strain is real its needed, because it will save loss of many expensive man hours and social security sick pay especially in Europe. Such pandemics can be expensive because of lost man hours.

WHO already know that cross species barrier flue viruses, do not cause a death threatening pandemic the original epidemic is the only real problem where there is always high death rates. But of course there is a real chance that a flue virus could mutate at the local epidemic stage. That’s why there is a need for governments in the third world to stop citizens breeding pigs and fowl in highly populated residential areas and to control the conditions that livestock are transported to market.  WHO really needs to lean on third world countries to make the necessary prevention changes.

There is also a need to check people leaving country and not only entering a country for signs of high fever. Letting someone sit on a plane with a high fever is just asking for trouble especially departing a third world country.

Last thought on the issue: Perhaps it should be compulsory to travel with a surgical masks on aircraft?
