Where is Obama's 'Wotan'?
I think, therefore I am - I think?
The cowboy in this particular blog post uses Jung to explain Bush Jr as some form of Nazi monster - or have I read it wrong - I have no real idea at that - but what is said:
Bush shares his 'demons' with a demographic represented in Germany by the Nazi party, in America, most recently, by the GOP.
It is, after all - interesting to say that Obama is this or that, and the GOPers are saying this and that, especially that Obama is going to utilise a new Hitler youth, a new form of Socialist governance and a lot of other stuff, too.
Yet, as we see - the same was said about Bush.
In 1936, Jung tried to describe what was happening in Germany —as many are trying to understand what is happening in America today. Jung wrote an essay called "Wotan" and in it, Jung described developments under Hitler, in terms of the mythology of the god Odin, a.k.a. the Germanic god Wotan. Jung wrote: "We have seen him come to life in the German Youth Movement."
So, how is it now - taking into account that Bush was seen as; as right-wing as you can get and Obama is seen as left-wing as is possible, even more left-wing than me - furgodssake!
Is it that different times different modus operandi? But not on behalf of the politicians concerned - but by a few odd-balls?
I suppose it is who and what you use to 'make your case' ... as I have said, some call Obama out for being all that is nasty in the world - by using C G Jung - others as was posted on that blog: Nov 21, 2008.
Was it that Bush is/was the greatest pariah to modern politics - or Obama?
We know, as historical fact, that Bush took the US into two financially crippling wars, gave unfunded tax breaks to the top inth % of the US population and presided over a financial crash so great people were on the verge of suicide and/or revolt because that crisis would be as bad as the '20s/30s crash.
What has, in his few months as president, Obama done that is so bad?
Some say he has increased the federal budget deficit so large people in 3241 will still be paying it off. (I wonder if Beck will quote that?)
Some have said that he is going to murder your grand parents, which we all know is not true - unless you have serious mental difficulties.
Should we then use Jung as some sort of prophet as to what Obama is and what he will do next?
Not too sure on that one:
YOUNG JUNG
Jung was born in 1875 in Kesswil, Switzerland, the son of a very spiritual family. As an adult he became vain and obsessive and had many affairs, having almost a sex addiction. However, he was very much a genius, trapped between the academic and the more esoteric.
THE PSYCHOLOGIST
If Jung hadn’t become an academic, he would have become a great medium, already exhibiting elements of other personalities inside him.
THE MYSTIC
This was very much self-reflection on Jung’s part. Following a break with Freud, Jung had a severe mid life crisis, descending into six years of mental illness, which Jung called a ‘creative illness’. He began communicating with spirits in himself.
THE ALCHEMIST
At one stage, Carl Jung decided to study alchemy, the search for the Philosopher’s Stone that transmutes lead into gold. But to Jung, alchemy was not aimed at the transmutation of metals, but at the transmutation of the soul.
Noting the mystical nature of the practice, alchemy was, to him, nothing more than the age old process of transcending normal consciousness and achieving an altered state. This began an interest in other areas of mysticism.
IN CONCLUSION
An academic who was eventually shunned by his peers...
Bush, too, was shunned by his peers - he also had conversations with God Himself, and a drink problem.
Personally I would let the play out, see where this is going and give the leader of your country a bit of support and allow the policy process follow through - that is, as we know, impossible for some. The reasons behind that - again, to me, it is a matter that after the years of neo-conservatism fear-mongering the American people don't know - for now - how not to be un-fearful.
The politics of fear are great - and have been used for such a long time adjusting may take a bit of time.
