"Where's the Leadership?" Time for New York State Education Reform

New York State Commissioner of Education Richard P. Mills comes under scrutiny again as Long Island senators express discontent by the most recent revelation that New York State Education Department, under the "leadership" of Mills, failed "to monitor a waiver system that has allowed a series of school administrators to collect both six-figure pensions and salaries.", and exceeding the legal limit after retirement. An estimated 420 waivers have been issued and Mills' claims no copies of the waivers exist.

All nine state senators are seeking Mills' immediate resignation even though it is alleged that Mills' future is within the power and control of the New York State Board of Regents, who openly support Mills.

Republican senators who joined the call were Kenneth LaValle, Port Jefferson; Caesar Trunzo, Brentwood; Owen Johnson, West Babylon; Dean Skelos, Rockville Centre; Kemp Hannon, Garden City and Carl Marcellino of Syosset.

Sen. Craig Johnson of Port Washington, the lone Democrat in the delegation, agreed with the others, said his spokesman, Rich Azzopardi.

"We feel there should be a new start in the Education Department."

Six-figure pensions and salaries! I wish!

Thanks for the flag, Amy! Unfortunately (for them) the salaries exceed the legal limit for this group of "retirees".

Oh how sad (for them)! ;)

Wow, imagine having someone hand out waivers like, apparently, lollipops so that people could get retirement pay at a level legally forbidden. Disgusting.

Pep, like lollipops is right! Thanks for commenting and the flag!
