In an about-face, the White House announce that a report on last week's unannounced New York City flyover by one of the planes that serves as Air Force One would be released to the public.
The flyover, first described as a photo shoot and then as a "secret training mission" frightened and infuriated New Yorkers (well, the ones to whom I spoke, anyway), who are still scratching their heads over why any official would be unable to predict the public reaction to such a stunt, and to the fact that the NYPD was ordered to keep it secret.
"The report, I believe, will be concluded at some point this week. We'll release its findings and release a photo," White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs said during his daily press briefing.
"These are public records because they were done on government time, with government resources, and government personnel," said Patrice McDermott of openthegovernment.org.
