White South African granted refugee status: Canada

Absolutely ridiculous.

Apparently Cowpoke the rules of reverse racism and political correctness do not seem to apply in this case!

These cases always baffle me a bit, but this is an interesting story.

Now that I have to agree with.

The SA government is doing nothing but in fact is as corrupt as the rest and as racist as they come. the new government elected this year was arrested but not convicted of rape a couple of years back... as well as corruption and fraud. at least in apartheid era the white people were not killing black people at will not was any violence against black people encouraged as it is now. South Africa is a dangerous violent and dying but most beautiful country. But during apartheid the world media only saw the bad as i guess is true now.

Since 1994 when the African National Congress under Nelson Mandela took over the government in South Africa more than 3000 white farmers were killed by blacks. That does not include any white person killed in the urban areas which happens on a daily basis. The figure is probably in excess of 10000. The article “White South African Granted Refugee Status” refers. Although much of what is contained in the article is true, I take strong exception to the following:  

Huntley says “we” (white South Africans) did terrible things to black people. How dare he imply that not one white South African opposed Apartheid and that the entire generation born after 1994 shares the guilt of supporters of Apartheid. Huntley’s sister refers to “African” South Africans. If she understands racism against white South Africans so well, why does she not understand that minorities in <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 />South Africa see being excluded from being African as another manifestation of racism. Refusing to refer to a white South African as African is like refusing to refer to a black person born in Europe as a European. Huntley implies rich people are able to protect themselves with security. I can tell you that there is no security when driving around the roads wondering if one will be highjacked and killed in the process. No one is safe from mugged in the street. For those who do have a lot of money, they are able to buy a limited degree of security once they are in their own homes but even this is no guarantee. In addition, crime is a rampant problem in South Africa that does not discriminate based on colour. Almost every South African of every race has been the victim one or more times of crime. One of the crimes that affected me was when a black friend was murdered for a cell phone. The writer refers to “colonial past based on racial apartheid”. By saying this, she is implying that all white South Africans are colonialists. Colonialism ended a long time ago and, albeit racist, is distinct from Apartheid. It is also tautological and incorrect to refer to racial Apartheid. It was not simply a racially based system; it was a racist system. The writer does not seem to have done basic research on South African history or racial issues before writing this article. That is appalling journalism.

Amazing indeed. This is more like an Israeli asking for refugee status in a foreign country as he is under constant threat from Palestinians. The whites in South Africa still call the sots, they run the economy and remain previliledged. You do get those who can't cut it under increased competition for jobs, fleeing to countries like Australia and now Canada. Well I guess Canada has made clear their position for all to see. I have never heard of anyone seeking assylum on the basis of crime ever. Crime affects everyone and in South Africa mostly blacks for logical reasons like residing in the ghetos (townships) where poverty is very strive. Can we discuss the Indian reservations while we are at it? I would advise them to come over for refugee status as I think that deserves assylum in my opinion.

Lebo, you are telling porkies. Fact is, through racist policies such as AA and BEE, white persons are not allowed to work. Apart from the horrendous crime rate, that is a reason why white people are leaving the country.

Immigration authorities in England have warned Canada to expect a deluge of young, unemployable, white  South Africans to arrive in their country after an immigration and refugee panel, made up of white folk who had never been to Africa, bought into former Cape Town resident Brandon Huntley's paranoia and granted him refugee status. "There won't be enough pubs and restaurants in Vancouver and Toronto to employ them all," said an unnamed Home Office source.

On Monday Huntley became the first white person to be granted refugee status in Canada after claiming persecution from black South Africans.

Commenting on the ruling a Huntley's friend, Hannibal Plettervat said, "Brandon was mugged several times by black people. It was a clear case of persecution. They also called him names."

Asked how muggings could be equated to political or racial persecution Plettervat said he didn't know. "But you can ask the tribunal," he said, "they'll be able to tell you."

Asked what Huntley was likely to do now that he was legally free to stay in Canada, Plettervat said his friend would probably spend another few years there, at least until he had qualified for a passport and saved some valuable foreign currency.

He said that once those initial objectives had been achieved Huntley would probably return home to South Africa, buy a house or a small farm and settle down. "You know, the usual."

Meanwhile members of the tribunal panel who ruled that "the claimant would stand out like a 'sore thumb' due to his colour in any part of the country,” reacted with shock on hearing that there were in fact a further five million white South Africans still suffering daily persecution.

"We thought that maybe there were another hundred white people left," said tribunal spokesperson Alba Snow. "We were ready to send a helicopter to airlift them to safety," she added.

Snow admitted that evacuation plans had been put on hold after video footage of Patricia Lewis live in Brakpan had been downloaded from YouTube. "The only person that stood out like a sore thumb in that video was a black sound engineer who looked like he was bleeding out of both ears," she said.

She said the tribunal realised they had it all wrong when further investigation revealed that places like Loftus Versfeld, Constantia and the opposition benches in parliament also contained, "more than their fair share of whites."

Louis, I work for a company that is by far dominated by whites at all levels and I do not think they will be closing shop as Louis would make it out to be. They have continued to employ predominatly white staff, or other groups and finally blacks to meet the legislatives requirements. No measures have been taken to any of these law breaking comapnies, in fact the government remains persuasive. At least there is a majority of whites back here who are happy with the way things turned and accept that there are challenges which require unity than baeless condemnations and destructive critisism. The world needs to know that the was report last week which clearly shows companies I completely violating the AA and BEE legislation. Now if they were to fully comply I wonder where you and your other cousins would be. Would leave this planet Louis. Unlike the US the blacks are a majority and I don't know in Canada but nature would have them make sure they reverse the well known imbalances of apartheid. For those of you who don't know, white women in South Africa get better opportunities than black men as far as Affirmative action is concerrned as they are deemed to have less priviledged in the past compared to their male cunterparts. As you can imagine blacks feel hard done by that. These are challenges every patriotic South African is willing to deal with until we can get to a balanced and accpetable situation. There are ofcourse those who think lying and twisting things would guarantee them your sympathy and ensure them refugee status. They first targeted Australia and now Canada. Crime affects all South Africans not only whites. As metter of fact more blacks are affected by crime which by the way is not only perpetrated by blacks for obvious reasons.We would recommend you come over and get more refugees if you so please. The current government has and the majority of its people have bent beckwards long enough to try to accomodate these people. We can only wish them good luck. South Africa has refrained to treat our fellow whites like Zimbabwe as we think everyone has a role to play in rebuilding the country for a better future. Good luck to Canada.

Skhmuba, darling... You can't call people liers... er liars on the basis of a satire. That article you posted there, albeit hilarious, is by no means factual. But thanks, sweetie, for making me laugh - that bit on Patricia Lewis had me in stitches.

I hate it when expats try to make South Africa to seem like a state in anarchy. I am a black South African living in Joburg, working for company whose work force is predominantly white. Everybody seems to get along quite well, the only horror stories I read are old stories that expats seem to conjure up from nothing. Canada is a sovereign state that makes its own laws. I feel sorry for them as they will now have to contend with a bombardment of refugee status applications from sour, lazy and unemployable white South Africans.
