How come we've never heard of this guy who strongly resembles Jerry Springer? (See photos.)
I suppose the natural answer would be because investigations have been ongoing and those involved wanted all details kept secret in case of prosecution.
Until his death in a car-bomb explosion in Damascus on Tuesday night, Imad Mughniyeh was a highly dangerous figure in the Mideast terror business who secretly served as a top Hizbullah military commander protected by the highest levels of the Iranian government, U.S. and allied intelligence officials said today.
Mughniyeh has been known to U.S., Intelligence officials for almost twenty-five years, after realizing that he was responsible for tragic events such as 1983 bombings of the Marine barracks and U.S., Embassy in Lebanon.
Not limited to these two events, Mughniyeh was also the powerhouse behind the kidnapping and torture of William Buckley, the CIA station chief, in Beirut.
Why did the CIA let him roam free for all this time, if they knew who he was almost a quarter century ago?
Especially when they feared further terrorist actions by the Jerry Springer look-alike. Where were you during these times Jerry? Hmmmm? ;)
As expected he did resurface recently - sending CIA Headquarters into a tailspin over what his intentions were. Their fears were realized in January 2006 when Mughniyeh traveled with Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to Damascus to meet with Syrian President Bashar Assad.
The others present were Hezbollah's Secretary-General, Hassan Nasrallah; Ramadan Abdullah Shallah of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad; Hamas leader Khaled Meshaal and Ahmed Jibril of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine.
What would one call such a meeting? A "Terror Summit"?
n the Iranian media, however, it was reported as a meeting to coordinate "unity and resistance in protecting Lebanon
from the U.S. and Israel."
One possible outgrowth of that meeting was
Hizbullah's cross-border raid in July 2006, in which two Israeli
soldiers were kidnapped—an event that triggered the Israel-Lebanon war
that summer.
Today, Western officials called him;
" one of the most dangerous terrorists on the planet." [...] There was evidence that he had strong links to Iran and to the Quds Force (the miliatry arm of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps).
As if his responsibility in the aforementioned events wasn't frightening enough, Mughniyeh was later identified and formally charged as the major architect in the bombing of a Jewish Community Center in Buenos Aires in 1994, which killed eighty-five people.
He was clever enough and had the contacts in order to disappear completely from the world eye view. Some even touted that he had plastic surgery, in order to travel frequently between Tehran, Damascus and Lebanon, undetected.

arming Iranian-backed militias inside Iraq. Those groups, as one U.S.
official put it, were "directly responsible" for attacks on American
soldiers. Mughniyeh "remained active literally to the day he died,"
said Francis Fragos Townsend, who until recently served as President
Bush's chief homeland-security and terrorism adviser.
The Hezbollah (literally meaning "Party of Allah,") television station, is called ????????? They interrupted their normal programming today , to announce the terrorist's death.
"With all pride, we declare a great jihadist leader of the Islamic
resistance in Lebanon joining the martyrs," said a statement carried on
Hizbullah's television network. "The brother commander hajj Imad
Mughniyeh became a martyr at the hands of the Zionist Israelis."
But then all these religious rants and kudos feel exactly the same, with the world paying less and less attention to the numerous videos found on YouTube and around the world.
They ALL sound the same. Nothing new is ever brought to the public - just these raving rants that threaten the "Great Satan," and anyone to do with them.
It's become yawn material.
Did Israeli or U.S., Intelligence have anything to do with the explosion that killed Mughniyeh? Who knows. We're still going to get the usual rhetoric that is fed to us via the media.
Other than to confirm his death, U.S., officials today declined comment, as the Israelis denied their involvement.
Mughinyeh's car that had been in a parking lot in a Damascus suburb, was blown up next to a building known to have been used by Syrian military intelligence.
