Why did police ignore 4th Amendment rights of students at search?

This is an amazing case out of Greene County, Missouri. High school students at Central High School were ordered to leave their possessions in their classrooms, be it notebooks, purses, backpacks etc for sheriff's deputies to search, really ransack, at will. No reasonable suspicion, no probable cause. Students reported their bags were searched en masse. Throughout the day if a dog sniffed the wrong way at a student, the student was searched and interrogated.

Again, this case is out of the U.S., where supposedly we have a 4th Amendment right against unreasonable search and seizures, and yes, that includes students and minors. Just because you might be under 18, doesn't mean the government can ignore your Constitutional rights, no matter how much they want to or try. Of course, this was about drugs, or the drug most likely to be found, if found, marijuana.

All this for a drug less harmful than alcohol. I support, strongly, legalization of marijuana. Not for minors, but the drug is not that harmful where the government can ignore completely the 4th Amendment when it comes to teens. Shamefully, a court dimissed this case as not a 4th Amendment violation.

How any judge cannot see this isn't a blatant Constituitonal violation by our government, I have no idea. But, at least the students know that their government doesn't give a damn about the 4th Amendment, when it comes to them. Maybe they will elect government officials, in the future, who care to protect it.

If you oppose this war on our Constituiton, consider joining the ACLU and the pro-drug/marijuana legalization groups, NORML, DRCnet or the Marijuana Policy Project.

I suspect that local law enforcement takes their lead from the federal level since the federal government pays for most all of local law enforcement training.  It's the old, 'follow the money'.  It's just wrong!! With that said, you need to read this book about Americans who do take a stand against federal tyranny.  www.booksbyoliver.  It's so real & about each of us defending our rightful freedoms (again). I recommend it. It would be nice to know what the parents had to say about the unauthorized search of their children, but many parents just don't care about raising children.  It's what I heard a long time ago:  We treat our pets like children and our children like pets.
