Why Does Muammar Gaddafi Travel With a Tent?
Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi has pitched his tent on Donald Trump's estate in New York for this week's General Assembly visit, but why does Gaddafi travel with a tent?
Gaddafi travels with a tent because he wants to stay true to his Bedouin roots, and so when he travels he has to take his own accomadation with him and find a place to stay.
He went to Paris in 2007 and pitched his tent in a garden of the Elysee Palace, which is the presidential residence. In Rome of 2008 he pitched it in Villa Doria Pamphili park, but he doesn't travel often because he meets with so much resistance to where to pitch his tent.
Many people are upset with Donald Trump's decision to let Gaddafi pitch his tent on his land.
Gaddafi's visit to attend the opening of the UN General Assembly has set off a round of diplomatic handwringing in Washington, coming so soon after the hero's homecoming that Libya gave last week to the only man convicted of the 1988 Lockerbie airplane bombing.
The Bedouin people are a number of tribes that live in the desert, and they date far back in to history. As they travel across the desert they set up large tents, which are sturdy in even bad weather. The tents are commonly made of hand spun and woven goat hair.

Not really - it is very, very study and will take a real whacking by wind and rain.
It is very heavy, yet if you add wool to the mix (unwashed/bleached) it will and does prove to be as good, if not better, than man-made products.
mi good old dad was a British army member and as kids we used to travel all over the world - one place we lived was Bahrain - there we learnt that wearing very loose clothing was far cooler than the normal 'western' tight clothing we would normally wear.
People, as people do, develop to the environment they live in and find the best way to live, BC.
Even in the hottest times in Canada I wear the loosest clothing I can because of what I learnt as a kid. :)

Thanks for this article. I have often thought of Gaddafi as a little erratic.
