Why is the GOP Playing Games With Americans?
One year after the Stimulus bill was passed, the GOP is still touting it as a waste of tax payer's money. They will tell you how Democrats have mortgaged away the futures of our children with these rampant tax-and-spend programs. But at the same time...they are benefiting from the very programs they supported in private, but lambasted in public.
I don't know about you, but I saw this coming a mile away. I remember last summer, for example, how Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal(R) said that he would not only vote against the stimulus, but he would in fact TURN DOWN stimulus money. And what do you think happened after that? That's right, he TOOK THE MONEY. But he's not the only one.
A few weeks ago, President Obama confronted Republicans regarding this hypocrisy, blasting them for their condemnation of the stimulus bill, but then showing up at ribbon cuttings for projects created by stimulus money. Rachel Maddow has done an outstanding job of calling out those Republicans that ran their mouths so fervently against the stimulus bill, but had no problem taking credit for it.
These people are playing games, plain and simple. Our political system has been reduced to the same status of a reality show. Each politician is just trying to survive long enough to reach the next election cycle; and they will do or say anything they can to get votes. And while all of this is going on, nothing is getting done.
I know my headline blames the GOP specifically for a problem that exists in both parties. The problem is that the Republicans are WAY over-the-top here. Even when the topic came up on Meet the Press this weekend, and Rachel Maddow confronted Rep. Aaron Schock on the issue of the stimulus bill, he refused to concede. But even the dimmest bulb can clearly see that the GOP is only interested in making themselves look good. They need to battle Obama to show off to their base, then they sneak themselves into photo ops for projects that would not have been possible, if it weren't for Obama and his awful, America-killing Stimulus Bill. And they will probably do the same for Health Care. And the Jobs Bill. And everything else that Obama touches.
Look, we get it. Obama is the anti-Christ. He's a commie. He's the Devil. He's Stalin and Hitler, he's arrogant and uppity, and all the other things you want to call him because it's not fashionable to call him a "nigger". But one of these days, all that ignorance is going to destroy the GOP. While they are playing games, and lying to their base to feed them the crap that they want to hear so that they will pull the lever with the red (R) next to it come election time, those same people will go another 3 years without jobs, or adequate heath care insurance, and a crumbling infrastructure, and an education system that has long been in the sh*tter. And we'll all be left with a nation of idiots that will continue to vote against their interests, and will continue to allow the "real" elites to continue to run the country into the ground.
But hey...at least they'll be White...

Exactly 12 Republicans did this. They are hypocrites. My senator Kit Bond is one of the offenders. He's retiring after this election cycle. I wrote a letter begging him to run again... just so I could have the privilege of voting him out. You just keep giving the GOP advice, Copernicus. I'm sure they can't wait to listen to you and follow your anally-redolent logic so they can win over your objective mind and your vote.

I like you, "Dwightwannabe". You may not believe that, but I do. Not because you do most of the work in constantly proving my points, and not because you call me "Copernicus"...but because you are obviously a "real Republican"; one that clearly cares more about America-- and not someone who is just trying to get the upper hand in an argument. Sure, you have no clear, concise, or lucid points to clarify you arguments, and you tend to debate with the same emotional fervor of a pre-teen going through puberty, but it's still a lot of fun to hear from you! I mean, I don't really understand your obsession with my anus, but I don't judge you for that-- at least you're out in the open about it.

CLARIFICATION/CORRECTION: 12 Republican congresspersons took the money. I have no idea how many Republican governors took the money.

"Look, we get it."
Who is "we?
"... because it's not fashionable to call him a "nigger" "
That is as racist a remark as I have heard of late, and I'm not even a Republican.
Further, I have yet to hear a single person, of any persuasion - other than you - use that term in regard to Obama.
You might want to consider the idea that it is simply politics as usual, and folks are throwing the prerequisite slings and arrows at another incompetent president.

It's very convenient, Hugh, that you chose to only extract the part of the sentence that used to word "nigger", and completely disregarded first half. Most people who understand race and racism know and understand code words that are used in place of the word. It seems to me that you chose to ignore that point all together, and instead just wanted to focus on my use of the "n-word" (how's that-- is that better?). As a Black person who has actually been called a "nigger" on a few occasions (and not in that friendly "nigga" kinda way), I think I have a decent perspective on this issue. I don't call "racism" at every turn, but I know it when I see it. Bill Maher, in his recent comedy special, does a bit on this very topic. And he's absolutely right-- he gets it. And...gasp...he's White, too!!!!!
Now, is Obama a typical politician? Yes, he is. Are his policy's perfect? No, they are not. Can he walk on water? Only on Sundays (badum-bum!). But seriously, come on. For you to suggest that there is not ONE PERSON in America that does not have a racial issue with Obama is really naive-- what do you think the "birther" issue is all about?! And you don't remember all of those videos on the campaign trail of Palin/McCain supports saying that they either were not ready for a "Black President", or "I won't vote for a nigger". And what about all those tea-bagger conventions and marches and things-- haven't you seen the posters they've been holding up?! This is not a figment of my imagination, or another Black Man with a grudge against Whitey kinda thing-- this is REAL. The only thing is that I'm not afraid to talk about it.
And hey, if I'm not speaking for "you" in my "we", so be it. I checked "Opinion" because (wait for it...) I AM EXPRESSING AN OPINION. You're either with it, or you are not. Period.
That's all (for now).

Honestly, i have not seen the media items you point to. I am hardly a Tea Bagger, nor do i follow them. I very seldom watch teevee, don't even get Fox news, and generally ignore the mindless babel seen and heard in the MSM.
As i said above, in no personal discussion of politics, have i heard racial remarks used about Obama. The closest i have heard, and i have heard this more than once, is why Obama is referred to as a black man, when he is obviously half white. That might be racist, but i sorta kinda thought folks wanted to identify with the guy.
It bothers me that criticism of Obama is, in itself, considered by some, as being racist. I just don't get that. I DO UNDERSTAND that you were expressing your opinion. You opinion clearly implies that people that call Obama names like Hitler, or Satan, do so because they really want to call him nigger. You then say "we get it".
I beg to differ. See more below in my response to nanute. I don't feel like retyping it.
On a separate matter, one of your intelligent Democrats said that not a single job has been created by Our Beloved Leader's much ballyhooed stimulus bill in the last six months. That was from one of the President's own party - not an ignorant Republican.

Fox is looking a lot like Tea-Vee these days.

You might want to check out this web site HA. It's called niggermainia.com and is devoted strictly to the president and his family.Nigger Barack Hussein Obama - Niggermania Forum | Nigger Jokes and Racist HumorThen, you might understand where the author of this story is coming from.

nanute, even with a skewed sense of humor, i wouldn't enjoy it, so i'll pass for the nonce, if you don't mind.
I did, in lieu of perusing the link, google a few terms i remember hearing about Bush. Things like, Bush is a Nazi, Bush is an Idiot, Bush is Jewish, Bush is brain dead, etc. Large, large, selection of sites for your enjoyment.......and that was my point - it is simply politics as usual.
I have no doubt that the same exists for Clinton, and even the elder Bush, Reagan, Carter, etc. It is simply the habit, the response, that people have when they oppose a person &/or a politician - they start calling names. It isn't like it is a unique Republican trait, you Liberals and Progressives seem to thrive on it.
I do believe it was our wise and respected Vice-President that once remarked that George Bush was brain dead, was it not?
So unless we are to hold Our Beloved Leader above public criticism, his supporters had best get used to the fact that when he makes a mistake, or does something the public doesn't like, folks will yell - just like they did with all the other presidents.

There is nothing humorous on the link that I posted. As you know, I like a good joke as much as the next guy . I suspect,(since you didn't provide any links) that most of the references to Bush were most likely from comments on blog posts. (That's the first I've heard of him being Jewish). I do know that his grandfather was instrumental in supplying the Nazi's war effort. This is all beside the point.
Remember the reaction when MoveON placed an ad in the NY Times calling General Petreaus, Genreal Betrayus? It was a clever play on words, and the right when into a hissy fit. Congress even had to condemn MoveON. Compare that reaction by the right to a sitting member of Congress calling the President a liar during a State of the Union address. No censure, just an apology (sincere?) was all that was necessary.
Now we have a movement of a predominantly white group of so called average Americans, (the one's Sarah Palin calls "real" Americans), insisting that the President is a socialist, communist, fascist, Nazi and not an American citizen. And this group is treated as mainstream, when reality will show that these folks, by and large are batshit crazy.
What bothers "conservatives" is that liberals point out the obvious, and it sends those offended into a fit of whining and crying just like a bully on the school yard after getting punched in the nose.
at 08:26 on February 17th, 2010
And when the Tea Baggers do the same? They get labeled racist no?
See the article for an example.
at 09:26 on February 17th, 2010
Only racists get labeled as "racists". That's it-- no one else does.
See, this goes to a greater point that I wrote about a few weeks ago. It is damn-near IMPOSSIBLE to have a discussion about race and racism without someone getting their metaphorical panties in a bunch.
Yes, you can criticize Barack Obama without being called a racist-- people do it all the time. Now Hugh, you say you don't watch television, so maybe you're not aware of that. I see people on the teevee box criticizing the President all the time. Not ONCE am I sitting there saying, "Stupid freakin' racists! You're all just racists, and you just don't understand!!!" Quite the contrary. Even on Fox News, who are required by law to be anti-Obama (that's a joke, just so you know-- I'll start labeling them from now on), freely criticize him without race working into it. Like, for example, that whole "Let's see how many times he says 'I'" bullcrap. Racist? No. Stupid? Hell yes!
You've basically taken a throw-away line I wrote in this article, and you've converted it into a misguided screed. And you're entitled to do that- and I don't even fault you for it. I know my sense of humor is an acquired taste; harsh at times, yet endearing(!). But you seem to want to refuse acknowledging certain truths about a portion of the opposition to Barry H. I mean, Tom Tancredo's racist ranting at the Tea Party rally is obviously not on your radar. And you obviously didn't read Jonathan Kay's piece in Newsweek. To deny that there is ABSOLUTELY no racism out there is silly. It really is. And stating that anyone that says that is an Obama ass-kisser is short-sighted and inaccurate.
I have written quite a few criticism about Barack Hussein. And again, I will continue to criticize this President when he deserves it. I guess that would make me a "reverse racist", huh? Or does that mean that I was a racist, but now I'm nice?! How do you do racism backwards, anyway?
As for the teabaggers...sigh. Again, read Jonathan Kay's piece. And look at the grand master of the teabagger organization, a guy named Glenn Beck (you don't watch TV, so I'm not sure if you know who he is). He's the one, I don't know if you remember, that called Barack Obama himself a racist. Now, how he came up with that, I will never know. But that's another trick that some White folks use to mask their own issues. And Beck has a great deal of issues regarding race. If that's the clown leading the parade...what does that tell you?
