Why kissing means more to women

If a picture is worth a 1,000 words, so may be a kiss - or certainly to a woman anyway, researchers say. A State University of New York team quizzed over 1,000 students, finding women place a big emphasis on kissing.

In some ways, I suppose this is quite a predictable finding based on what we [think we] know about the differences between men and women.

Women...

... use kissing as a way of assessing the recipient as a potential partner, and later to maintain intimacy and to check the status of a relationship.

But men...

... placed less importance on it, using it to increase the likelihood of sex, Evolutionary Psychology reported.

Not that we're playing to stereotypes at all!

It's all about the expectations, it seems. And the evolution. Interesting.

I am a guy and I think that a kiss is the most intimate thing that one can do. I would place it well above sex any day. I think the fact that they were 1000 studuents had more of an impact on the answer than the gender. Just my thoughts on it.

You might be right. Although in social science research, 1000 respondents is considered a fairly large sample - certainly big enough to run a sophisticated statistical analysis.

Yes I would go with the flow on this and admit I am a stereo type yet women are canny creatures when quizzed and have a tendency to want to look romantic than a sex temptress so.

I am skeptical at the value of the survey of young women that really do not want to give the game away that kissing and caressing make them want and feel sexy.

But being a gentleman I just have to give them the benifit of the doubt then show that knowing smile, lol

I don't think either side is telling the truth. I mean really women are only kissing to "find out information?" Perhaps that just tells us how little we know about ourselves, or are willing to admit, as if enjoying it would make men less manly. Or perhaps just enjoying doesn't seem like a good enough reason.
