Will Fakhrud din Ibrahim ensure free elections??
The unanimous name agreed by all political parties for the key post of Chief election commissioner is Fakhrud din Ibrahim, a man of calibre and with integrity beyond any doubt. But the key question here is will he ensure free and transparent elections in the country and transfer power to new elected government??
Election commission of Pakistan
There are two main dimensions of how Fakhrud din will work.
a). Do he has the power to work as an independent head of Election commission , power here means the power of law. Are there necessary laws already present in the election commission which he can implement? or he would first have to legislate.
b). Will he toe the line of political parties advise or take decisions independently without any fear or pressure. It is very important not to get occupied with political parties demands and wishes which are no doubt plenty.
Fakhrud Din Ibrahim would need the help of law implementing bodies of the country mainly police and agencies because the pivotal step would be to implement the laws which has been lacking since long in our election commission.
The role of chief election commissioner is not fulfilled by just holding general elections but it completes with the peaceful transfer of power to a newly elected government on which all the political parties agree.
Believe it or not this post of Fakhrud Din Ibrahim would decide his life worth, if he peacefully transfers power to a new government it would place him in the heroes of Pakistani nations otherwise he would make himself another Aitzaz Ahsan.
