Will Florida be the deciding state for Election 2008
And eight years after Florida's recount drama, a new election debacle in Palm Beach County, home of the infamous "butterfly ballot," as well as new voting laws and untested voting machines, suggest the Sunshine State could again muddle the White House contest.
We all remember almost 8 years ago when the decision came down to the state of Florida and more important Palm Beach County, But once again in advance of the 2008 election problems are beginning to surface in Florida. The main issue seems to deal with 2 new laws that have been implemented in the state. As voters come to the poles the new requirement will be to match identification with a database that could be old or plagued with mistakes. The second law and probably the most controversial will allow a voter to challenge the legitimacy of another voter. The Wall Street Journal reports. Citizens will have the ability to challenge each other and proof of validity will have t be provided within two days.
I remember the United Nations offering election oversight, our country of course would not accept any foreign intervention in the matter, but i wonder today how could it hurt. We have multiple companies that have charged various states millions of dollars to replace outdated systems for voting. Simply moving from one state to another is also learning how to vote again.
How do we move on from here, what will it take for us and put time into a proper voting system. We have real issue that deserves real solutions the time is now for us to make change. Election in 2008 should not be the same as 2000.
