NP Rank:
WILL LAS VEGAS MAYOR GIVE OBAMA THE BOOT BACK TO D.C.?
Las Vegas, Nevada..............February 17, 2010
With Air Force One scheduled to land in The Entertainment Capital of the World tomorrow, all eyes are focused on The Dramatic, Colorful Mayor of Las Vegas, His Honor, Oscar B. Goodman.
The Official, elected Vegas leader had promised after Mr. Obama's last verbal slam in N.H on the number one tourist destination in the US to give The President the BOOT the next time he came into Goodman's territory. Will he or won't he?
Upon a quick review of The President's Vegas trip carefully planned schedule, guess what? It appears that Barack Obama will literally not be showing up while in Nevada in even one square inch of The Mayor's jurisdiction.
You say, "But The President is going to be in Vegas." Yes, but Las Vegas is an expanded name for almost the whole Vegas Valley.
If Obama lands at McCarran Airport, he will be stepping off the plane on to Clark County territory. Then when he heads over to the home of Palms Hotel and Casino owner, George Maloof, for a private fundraising dinner The President will be in Henderson, Nevada. Rumor has it that The Most Powerful Man in the world will then spend the night at the beautiful Bellagio Hotel on the Las Vegas Strip. But the Famous Las Vegas Strip is not in the city limits of Las Vegas. Once Las Vegas Blvd. South crosses Sahara Avenue, all property is in Clark County. Another narrow escape for the President. On Friday, Mr. Obama is scheduled to tour with Senator Harry Reid the new City Center Complex on the Strip and give a special speech to business leaders at the same location. Remember, City Center is once again on County property. The Mayor misses out one more time.....foiled again!
Now, think a minute. These people are all high speed politicians. And they are used to putting out fires before they begin and not making a scene that would create a bad image for anyone, especially themselves. So do you think this schedule might have been arranged so that there was no chance for a major embarrassing incident?
Of course, it was. This way The President can do his thing and The Mayor can stand on his commitment....."If he comes here (into the official territory of Las Vegas city limits)..then I'll give him the boot back to D.C." Oh, dear! Obama will never enter Goodman's jurisdiction. That's how politics eliminates public conflicts and politicians get voted back into office the next election.
Ah...but this writer along with so many other residents of Las Vegas had so hoped to see a major battle between The Leader of the Free World and The Gambling Mecca's King Oscar. Vegas is definitely the place to hold an event of this magnitude. So many of the sports books would have profited bigtime from these two "Raging Bulls" locking heads.
Don't you feel sorry for a Big Time Promoter like Don King who could have set the entire event up at the Grand Garden Arena? I will bet Mr. King hasn't had a wink of sleep tossing and turning every night since Obama's schedule was announced wishing and hoping he could have set up the biggest matchup in Boxing History right here in Vegas.
If we could only have captured digitally Don King's dreams of such glory and prestige, it just might have looked like the video Mr. King would have called, "The Rumble Of The Century". Sorry, Don...not this time. But as Yogi always said, "It ain't over till it's over!"
